It would be funny if it weren't so sad.
Almost no one talks about the POLICIES of the presidential candidates.
Its all about Obama's pastor or McCains age, etc....
What about the war? the deficit? our jobs going to China and India? our environment? our energy policy? our educational system? etc, etc.

Oh wait, Hilary just got a new haircut!
And Obama is wearing an American flag pin!
And McCain, well, no ones really paying attention to him. What did his wife do today?

I blame the viewers still. The mainstream media can only sell it, we still have to buy it. If human nature didn't force our heads to swivel in the direction of car accidents, then pictures of car accidents on the news wouldn't sell commercial time.

Every great empire eventually meets its end. Ignorance will be America's downfall.

Hopefully something greater rises from the ashes.

stop hanging around your family? :D

joking aside, I hardly see this. I usually have pretty good discussions about oil, Iraq, economy, election campaigns with my friends and coworkers.

Except this happens in every country, whether its an empire or not and has always happened since the time of the countries founding.

The people of a nation make the nation, if the nation fails blame yourselves.

So I've learned that you actually aren't serious with your posts, you make them for pure comedic relief. It's great now that I see you for what you are!

Another good one to add to the tally!

The candidates aren't going to seriously discuss the issues for fear of alienating potential voters so why would the media try to cover issues? If you ask these politicians straight up questions you receive circle speak in return with no hard point message. While the media is pathetic at the least, they're only following whatever sniff they can get.

I strongly believe about the Romans, they became arrogant, and they were overran for the Huns (barbarians). Rome was the light but the corruption in the government and society was big. Yes I agree ignorance will be America's downfall.

No, GWB is merely an accellerant. Our fantasy tattoo, is that we can continue to dominate the world economy while having a negative balance of trade. It will all come to a screeching halt when the world quits loaning us money. And then it will be hello third world.

No more oil and no more fully stocked walmart shelves. As for US management talent, who would hire that?

To the idea that GWB will mark the fall of the USA, I would say this: The US has continued to strengthen during the last century and has been the unquestioned superpower. It is at its apex now, give or take a few years, so the question is, are we seeing the peak now and then will fall from it? A lot of signs would indicate this is possible, the economy looks like it may be in for a major adjustment, US sentiment goes down and meanwhile other countries are accelerating. IF this is the time at which the US can in the future point to and say "yep, that's when things started to go down hill", we could in fact blame some significant portion of it on Bush, although he was merely a little extra gasoline in a bucket already nearly full.

America is in trouble because the culture has changed from one of working to succeed to one of whining for handouts and bailouts.

because policy disagreements quickly degenerate into "your candidate a closet muslim" vs "you'd vote for Hitler if he were running."

and, in the race that's gotten the most attention to far -- hilary / obama -- there aren't really any major policy differences.

Your vote is your weapon, you should use it wisely... But we are tired, sad, angry or simply shallow. They are just the representatives of the people, they should not use it like a status symbol or as a tool of his will.

Well, there's no official candidate of either party, and the two contending Democrats have essentially the same platform. What policy differences are there to discuss?

As long as we dont forget about dancin with the stars and American Idol; that is the important thing. There was a girl turned away from her prom because she tried to make an outfit like the ones she saw on dancing with the stars. She can not understand why her prom outfit was unacceptable. Maybe because the show dancing with the stars is also unacceptable.

"A democracy cannot survive as a permanent form of government. It can last only until its citizens discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority will vote for the candidates promising the greatest benefits from the public purse, with the result that a democracy will always collapse from loose fiscal policies, always followed by a dictatorship."

Sorry, but that's horse shit. It's an election year in my country and here the media covers policy, not the drivel that comes from American media.

American media is publishing what people want to buy.
