Why does AMD screw up on silly things. I recently purchases an R9 280x. Great price but honestly I was concerned every AMD/ATI card I have owned except one never excited me. I finally realized why. The driver package came with some Raptr software, honestly I didn't know it installed itself I assumed it was part of the driver package. This software has messed up my windows 8 mail app (I don't use the app that often but regardless I want it to work) and was slowing down BF3 to a crawl. The slow down was so severe that my old GTX260 played BF3 substantially better. I was very close to returning the card thinking it was a piece of crap then I noticed the raptr program and uninstalled it. Everything is fine now, except mail app is still messed up. I also recently built an FX6350 machine for the GF, its mother board has failed once and I suspect it will fail again soon the machine powers off at random time. I know its not the PS I changed that with a different one and same thing happens.
How can AMD continually screw up minor things and not expect them to impact sales? I really want to like AMD I usually like the underdog.

I'm HIGHLY doubting that you weren't prompted to downlaod this as additional software. Most likely you're among the thousands of people who just click next during software installs.

And you purchased an AMD graphics card, but not directly from AMD. So blame the company who produced that card (EVGA, Sapphire, PNY, whatever).

All you've shown here is an ignorance to paying attention when you install software, and an ignorance on who to blame when things actually do go wrong.

Yes I'm sure it prompted me somewhere. My point is why allow that to be part of the driver package when I am getting them from the AMD site? To me it's sloppy and not thought out well.
As for the Motherboard that keeps failing, I know AMD did not make it but regardless its part of their system. Why allow partners to make crappy products and not think its going to reflect negatively.

Isn't Raptr their version of the GeForce experience software add on from nVidia? It's not do much bloatware as it is an auto game setting optimizer for the masses, not sure how it stands up to GE from nV but aside from always prompting you to update drivers or optimize game settings can't see how it'd interfere with much else.

Select a "Custom" install. Raptr is listed in the "Component Selection". My teenage nephew likes it and it hasn't messed with his system at all; with Win7 and an AMD Sapphire 7950.

Yup FX6350 problem was the MB, changed to an Asus board. Gigabyte had two chances I'm not giving them a 3rd try.
Again an amateurish problem with the Asus board, no DVI or HDMI connector. Only VGA, I understand its an Matx board and I also understand HDMI is a stretch for a budget board but VGA only come on. AMD needs to set better standards for their board partners.

You paired an inexpensive crap 760G board with a 125W FX CPU?

That's a recipe for quick failure. Most (all) 760G boards have nowhere near the power delivery circuitry to handle the 125W rated FX CPUs. Its no wonder the board(s) packed up and went south.

As for features, you get what you pay for. Nothing more and nothing less. Its not amateurish on the part of the mainboard manufacturer... 😀

Just for the record, the 760G needs to go away. Its a 5 year old chipset after all, its really not suited to new builds.

Its listed as supported, again if an FX should not be paired with a 760G then don't list it as supported.

I forgot to mention the box did not state what connectors but it does state up to 1440 resolution. Who has that resolution with a VGA port?

Too many gotcha's with AMD its really disappointing

I don't really like all the new amd features that install themselves with their drivers either. I just updated my driver and am getting pop-up to use the dvr feature to record my games and that I am a terrible person because I have nine games that are not optimized by Raptor. Leave me alone and just run the game. I have zero interest in recording my gameplay, and prefer to optimize my settings myself, since I think that is part of the fun of PC gaming. I guess I should have done a custom install, but still it would have been nice even with the automatic install there had been some prompts asking me if I wanted to install these features.

Frozen tundra do me a favor, if you have BF3 try running it when raptr is on. Is it a slide show for your system?

I have a relatively new AMD card and no problems in any BF game. Been playing BF3, BF4 and the Hardline Beta.

Honestly, the common theme running through all your complaints is that you weren't paying attention or didn't do research. Computer building is a great hobby, but it does require a certain diligence on the part of the builder.

I've had no problem in BF3 after removing raptr. Card has been great. I guess I don't have the patience any more. As I previously said too many gotchas with AMD

So long as it works within the warranty period everything is fine from the manufacturers point of view. They don't really care how well it holds up beyond that. (beyond getting a bad rep obviously... :sneaky🙂

The issues with AM3+ 4+1 phase boards used with 125W TDP CPUs is pretty common knowledge on the internet. Its not limited to 760G boards BTW.

Technically VGA doesn't have a maximum resolution. It all depends on the DAC and cable used. I do think one would have a hard time finding a 1440p monitor with a VGA port though... 😀

Well, AM3(+) is an old platform that has really been pushed to the limit and beyond. AMDs focus these days are strictly on the much newer and much better APU/FM2(+) platform. You are also using a budget AM3+ board. Its a little harsh to judge AMD on a budget board, using a platform that is over 5 years old. If you want extra features you have to pay a little extra to get them, manufacturers can't survive on giving stuff away from free...

you're blaming AMD for the lack of outputs on low end boards that you purchased?

Technically VGA doesn't have a maximum resolution. It all depends on the DAC and cable used. I do think one would have a hard time finding a 1440p monitor with a VGA port though... 😀

Forgot about that one. Thanks for the correction, keeping track of everything is not easy... :biggrin:

2048x1536 is ~3.14MP. 2560x1440 is "only" ~3.68MP, so I don't think its beyond reasonable a good quality DAC and a shortish cable could handle that. VGA has zero problems handling 1080p after all (though without HDCP, so you won't be watching blurays on such a setup). I don't really have any experience with VGA much beyond 2048x1536, I'm using DisplayPort for my personal 1440p. The ones we have at work use good old fashion dual-link DVI.

No I'm blaming them (Asus) for not making it easy to understand, I'm holding AMD accountable for me having a generally disappointing experience with AMD & their partners. Honestly what business doesn't want to meet or exceed expectations?
I'm realistic its a budget machine but two failures in 11 months, who could be happy about that.
