I restarted my computer not more than an hour ago and look how much ram it's using. If I add up all the processes though it doesn't add up to 300. It's closer to 200mb. Where did 100MB go?.

Why would my OS be doing with it? I thought all those other processes were the OS.

Firefox. Definately. I've had it use up to 1.5GB of VM before. (Before they fixed a major memory-leak bug around the 0.9 release timeframe.)

Btw, those numbers on the lower-right corner of the window, on the status bar, aren't RAM, they're virtual memory.

firefox, winmx, foobar, and mc-whatever look like they're taking up 100MB. I'm guessing that you just have tons of third party programs loading on startup or somesuch.
