I mean, they are big, black, ugly fords, yes for some reason I really want one, and I think they are like a Mafia-mo-bile...

Why is it I like this car so much?

If it's any consolation, I love that car too.

It has so much modding potential!

Ahhh. I can see you have never driven a Grand Marquis.

I rent them all the time.

Not an old farts car.

I dunno. It's big, black, shiny, and fast.

I could have added some very bad humor to that above statement. But I'll refrain. For now. :D

i got the free DVD from the Mercury site and wasn't incredibly impressed, despite it's beauty. Then i saw one on the road...it's effing amazing!!! It even has a stock deep throaty exhaust.

A more accurate analogy would be a larger 2001 mustang cobra.

They're pretty cool. :)

I drive one every Sunday!
I drive my grandparents 2002 Mercury to church every Sunday.
It even has some Sport Trac Suspension package. Its an over weight boat.
The Marauder does have even better suspension and braking but there is still too much weight in that vehicle.

Give it the supercharger package from the 2003 Cobra and it would kick all kinds of ass. For now its performance is not enough to overwhelm its very stodgy shape in my mind.

tell me ..how is it better than an impala? impala is bigger, faster, handles better, and a hell of a lot cheaper

You talkin' 'bout the new Impalas? <gag> If you mean the old SS, then you may be right. Not sure what the 0-60 is on the Marauder, but the 1993 Impala was 7 seconds and 1995 Roadmaster strangely enough, was 6.7! I highly doubt it handled better, though!

Hmmm, we know where thomsbrain's mind is! :Q

It's about time a US manufacturer wrapped a "performance" car around a "proper" platform again. The top cars in the world in the performance, luxury and touring categories all use a body on frame, RWD layout. Using a simple V8 to power the thing is just a "bang for the buck" way to get the job done.

We could ALL benefit by the shift to this type of configuration. Much safer, sturdier and easier to work on than the eensie imports. Gas mileage ain't bad and there's some damn elbow room to boot... WHAT A CONCEPT!

a friend of mine has a 96 crown vic, basically the same car
not Great power but decent, nice ride; Lots of room..:D:cool::p front and back;)
4 wheel disc brakes, the Marauder is a souped up version of this and if i had the $$ maybe...
i would prob look at buying a used Cop car, caprice ,or crown vic,and then hop it up...!!

A good condition SS is still over/around 20k, so the cheaper part is right, but how can you compare a brand new car to something from last decade?
Bigger, true - faster? How so? They had 40 horses less, and I'd be willing to bet they were heavier than the Marauder too... (just looked it up, 200lbs more)

Handling is subjective, I'm not familiar with either one of the car's handling capabilities. The Merc has the advantage of almost 10 more years of tech behind it.

Hmmmm!

A large, comfortable, RWD, V-8 powered 4-door sedan with plenty of headroom, legroom and seating for 6?

Naaaaah, Americans would never buy something like that.
