Why am I not getting any sound on HD digital channels with my antenna?

Won't come through the TV speakers or the receiver via optical from the TV. I'm more than competent when it comes to AV gear, especially with my stuff, but I'm scratching my head on this one.

Ideas?

I think it's something with the TV decoding sound. I have just regular cable coming into the second tuner(no box, straight coax), and there are some digital HD channels from there that also don't have sound, yet the analog channels are fine.

Usually audio comes at a much lower signal level than video. So maybe your signal strength coming through is too low. Any distortion?

Edit: I just read the title, and not the post. Well, HD stuff does operate at different QAM levels and is very complex, who's your provider? You get any sound with basic cables instead of the optical?

Signal is near perfect, 93-95 range. Antenna and cable I get no sound on digital channels, but I do get sound on analog. No distortion, not real quiet, just nothing at all (that includes the built-in TV speakers, not just when I output it to the receiver).

It should work fine. Mine comes through at a 40% signal. Maybe something is wrong with the sound decorder.

Maybe there's an option to turn on the digital audio output on your HD tuner?

You probably have Dolby enabled on your tuner. I had the same problem. If you bring a 5.1 source into a device that will only play 2.1, you'll only get half the channels. Solution: switch to "PCM" on the tuner.

BTW, what tuner do you have, what antenna did you get, how is it mounted and and how far away are you from the transmitters?
