I can't seem to stop upgrading. My computer should be more than good enough, but the money I dont even have burns a hole in my pocket...

Well, since you asked: low self esteem probably. You get Sig Envy and start abusing your credit card at Newegg. How is/was your relationship with your mother?

Yeah. I was into the whole case mod thing awhile back - I even painted my case the very lovely green it is today. My secondary PC also got a nice case mod - black front, marbled side panels, UV lighting inside. But I wanted a fileserver with lots of hard drives, which that case couldn't support. I I've got a fairly unmodded Antec SLK3700AMB. You don't want to do much to it either - it's already got a great paint finish.
All I did to it was slice out the stamped fan grilles (though I can't use chrome ones because of their weird fan clips), and add a handle to the top of the case. No window in it.
So I got over that affliction in time.

My main system has been mostly the same for a few months now. It's had minor upgrades - 9700 Pro -> 9800 Pro, since the 9700 just died on me one day, of causes unknown. And I'm eyeing a 1.35V XP2400 for it as the next upgrade. It's already got an XP2100@2.1GHz, but I'd like something that'll give me more GHz for less power consumption.
I see no need to upgrade to a P4 EE, or an Athlon64 processor any time soon. Windows XP, nForce2, 1GB PC3200, Radeon 9800 Pro - it's just a good combination.

Tell you what you can do though - use a pitifully slow computer for awhile, like something with a 500Mhz processor and 32MB of RAM. It'll make you really appreciate your own speedy system.

Just make sure you never try to "upgrade" your girlfriend (that open slot is not for adding another stick of RAM!)... or you'll be sleeping on the couch.

I just upgraded in May, and now I have the itch again. My wife just does not understand. Anyway, I've decided to put it off until Nforce 4 boards come out, so maybe by the end of the year, if they're available.

I think the need of buying a new car will cure my computer upgrading disease pretty soon. Gotta et that 23" lcd before that happens so I can go out in style :D

As you can see by my sig, I have the disease also. My next upgrade will be to a 5 drive 15k U320 SCSI array, and a new U320-x2 controller ! That should be about $3300

Several years ago I always thought I had to have the fastest and newest and after paying the big bucks
for the latest and greatest hardware and then selling it for a fraction of what I paid a while later when I
chased the "fastest" again.

Now I'm happy to keep a good running system without any problems that does exactly what I need for it
to do.

After all, how much computer do you really need in order to surf the internet? :)

Well said. My combination of the above has to last me at least 18 months from now.

I say its not our fault..

Its those "damned" manufacturers who keep making these new stuff.. and those reviews that come in that make your system look so bland and boring..

Haha.. this is what I like to call "chasing the digital high"... they should have like a digital rehab center for digital addicts like us.. keke.. take away your credit card and internet connectivity so that you can't see the latest and greatest.. =)

But, well, since they don't have it and we are actually contributing to the economy.. what the heck..

Just keep em coming.. !!

Haha.. lets all get "digitally high"....

Do yourself a big favor, cut the umbilical cord to net access for awhile :) I did it and it cured me of the upgrade fever that infects message boards like this. Now I'm content with my current LAN and have started spending the bulk of my fun money on other hobbies/interest again. I'll just have to live vicariously through other members upgrades till my present A64/6800GT setup bonks enough to force me to replace it, that should be a good while.

I hear ya...
I traded my main system for a lappy..
Just so I could slow down my upgrading urges..
It's an addiction like any other addiction...
Maybe there should be a group like A.A. or N.A. can call it U.A.

Yes, I too have this problem. Though my current system seems to be satisfying me more than usual. I need a new video card so I plan to go affordable and get a 6600GT or X700XT and sell my 9800 Pro to recoup much of the price. This idea mollified my wife. :)

The mobo/CPU will last until some time next year, the RAM will get upgraded slightly so that I can get a little higher FSB. My old RAM will also be sold off to offset much of the cost of the new stuff. :)
