Why am I locking up?

abit ip35e
6gb ddr800
q9400

i've ran this OC for 2 months without one problem. perhaps my settings are a little off from what i used the first time i got the quad core cpu.

fsb 425
1:1:0 mem div
8x multi
ddr 1.95v
vcore 1.32v
the memory is running at 850

i know this setup can do it, i ran prime95 for severals hours but lately only in bad company 2(only game i have installed atm) it randomly freezes locking up the entier PC. i've played one game without a crash and my fsb was at 400 during that instead of 425. any suggestions so i can keep my 3.4ghz OC?

ps- temps are fine. never over 62 full load. 42 now as i type this.

yes, and the systems that I have done the high fsb on, it degrades over time. Go for 400 at best.

well the thing that erks me is that this ran SOLID without one freeze for about 2 months..

increasing the vcore wouldn't help too much due to the chipset? what board do you guys suggest to get more out of it? i had someone tell me in a past thread but it's slipping my mind. not looking to drop $100 bucks on a mobo. perhaps i can pick whatever you suggest on the forums?

That's the thing with Overclocking and the reason why I only do it if I don't care if my PC runs tomorrow. It slowly kills PC parts for the sake of extra Speed. More accurately speaking, it kills faster than normal Speeds would, but you really can't expect an Overclock to last for any particular amount of time. When Stability starts getting iffy, it simply is no longer a "Good" Overclock(assuming Drivers, Viruses, or some other issue isn't the cause).

It could also just be Bad Company 2. It crashes randomly for almost everyone, and I've had it lock me down a time or two, requiring a hard reset. Does there seem to be a pattern of when it crashes? Every one of mine have been right after getting killed in an explosion.

BC2 is known to be problematic for a great deal of people it would seem, though I see more Intel case's. I'd make sure you've tested some other games before concluding your hardware is the issue.

Ya BC2 does also seem to have problems I haven't had problems but daughter said a few customers were having issues

ip35-e vdroops like crazy, esp on a quad.

Increase the voltage 1 notch and get back to us.
If it stops locking up, note the voltage that's being shown (when the processor is fully loaded with prime95) in CPU-z, record that value, and check it periodically.

You need to disable "realism mode." ^_^

What is the memory runnig at? The 420fsb is an odd one so the ram may be running over stock....I would run prime95 blend or memtest for few hours and see if you get it to freeze....

otherwise also look at the video card if the memory come back good...see if you have a pci-xpress frequency locked at 100. If so try 101 to 105 manually as I have seen that work in the past.
