Why am I having so much skin problems in my old age?

When I was young, I remember I would have maybe one itchy red dry patch of skin -- maybe in my lower back -- that seemed to flare up in the winter time. In the summer it would go away. When it went away, the skin didn't itch but it was a slightly darker shade.

Now that I'm older, I have these itchy patches all over my upper arms and legs. Also on my lower stomach. During the summer and warmer periods, most of them goes away. But there would always be a stubburn patch on my arms. It just appears as a darker patch of skin.

In the winter time, they all seem to reappear. And they itch. I used lotion and it helps but does not get rid of them. I even tried hydrogen peroxide and alcohol to try to kill whatever is causing them. Why am I having such problems? Am I infected with some sort of parasite?

it's the flesh eating bacteria~

dont worry it'll go away~ along with the rest of your skin~ :D

hehe i'm just kidding

it's prolly sensitive skin~

try visiting a dermatologist i'm sure they can diagnose your problem

talking to a pharmacist can help as well~ and recommend a lotion or cream~

i got some hydrocortizone and it works pretty well. my skin is back to normal now. not sure if i have to keep on applying it (that's my guess). you can get 1% over the counter at any grocery or drugstore

there was a thread i made where we somehow got into a discussion about this, and some people gave me helpful advice there... i'll try to dig it up

You doing anything about it / seeing a Dr.? I'm not a Dr, but based on recommendations from one, for our daughter we use a hydrocortisone creme (1%) [Equate brand was the cheapest] available over the counter [got it at WalMart, I think it was in the personal hygene product sections (soap/shampoo/etc) but maybe it's over in infants section]. Also, use a moistiorizing lotion after her baths 'KERI' lotion is free of dyes/perfumes/etc, so are a few others.

We give her baths 2-3x a week instead of everyday (everyday, especially if you use a soap, dries out the skin more). Hardly ever see any signs of the eczema now.

Can also look into diet, some foods may be causing it.

Yeah, that's what I've been using. It seems to work the best of the American stuff that I've tried. But it doesn't get rid of it. I also tried some Chinese stuff (white lotion in a little tube) that also seemed to help alleviate it. But nothing seems to get rid of it for good.

well from what i gather eczema is often caused by some allergy or something. so it isn't going to go away until you remove whatever is causing the allergy... the hydrocortizone just treats the symptoms iirc.

Vitiligo? I've never heard of a non-black having that problem. That's weird. Now watch me jinx myself and start getting symptoms.

It just seems like I'm starting to fall apart. When I was younger I had pretty clear skin I think. Now I probably got eczema and other red rashes on my face. Also, I had some problems with ingrown zits or something. For some reason I started to get this on my right jawline. Unfortunately, one zit got impacted or something -- it never popped out and now I have a little bump in that region.

haha i have the same kind of zit... i used to have one on the right side but it disappeared somehow  now there is one on my left. i dunno what's up with that. it's not painful or anything, just a little bump that i can wriggle. it doesn't look like a zit... just a bump.

I used to have that problem in the winter also. I think the dry air made it worse. When I switched laundry soap ( to liquid, sensitive skin formula, no dyes or perfumes), it went away.
