i just replaced my geforce 5200 which was getting 588.

now, i'm only getting 5844.

i ran driverclean in safe mode to remove my old nvidia drivers and am using ati 5.8 catalyst drivers.

what could be wrong?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's nothing as good as a fresh new install of windows 😉
(You can also try '05 and see if your scores are also lowers as they should be)

my scores is on the sig and same for the rig (link).

The GPU is on stock just to let you know 😉

...using X850XT agp btw 😛

i have a dell 4660 and i made sure that the bios is updated along with the chipset (off of dell's site). is there anything else that i should do?

my system:

2.66 ghz, 1 gig RAM, 2 HDs, 2 opticals, and audigy2 - all on dell stock PSU still.

ltc,

it says:

main driver: ati2dvag.dll

version: 6.14.0010.6561

date: 8/3/2005

WHQL Logo'd: Yes

Mini VDD: ati2mtag.sys

VDD: n/a

DDI Version: 9 (or higher)

oh sorry purdue - i forgot to tell you.

i'm running it now again with the performance setting slider all the way to the left. that was the only way i change the AA and AF settings.

will update with results soon. thanks.

am i missing something here?

unless you bought it you can't. So I assume yours should be set up right. has the score gone up at all??

Next thing you could try is finding out the chipset and getting the drivers off of intels site. I have done that before and it worked in that case

purdue,

thanks to you, i'm looking at a score of 11659.

should i still bother checking out intel's site for an update or is dell's update fine?

considering you are getting the correct score now, I wouldn't risk it. Dell chipsets can be custom sometimes. Wouldn't want to F anything up ya know? Its working now. Be happy and go cap some people in the a$$ in CSS

hehe....no, its 03...for sure..

OMFG, thats horrible. some kind of bottleneck or driver issue. or, turn off vsync

haha....can you explain what is vsync? and how do i access this?

thanks.

purdue - thanks and i will! just installed half life 2...

Vsync is a process which will update the image along at 60 FPS max I think. All it does is waits to refresh until it can refresh the entire image to avoid image tearing and such. The only reason it would be on is if you turned it on in the control panel or in the game.

hey purdue,

when i'm playing half life 2 or any other shooter, whenever there is a sudden increase in pixels/textures, my computer hangs....is this normal? or is it because my CPU is weak?

vsync - does it keep it running at 60 FPS constantly?

no it makes the max 60 FPS, I wouldn't recommend it unless you can't stand a little image tearing here and there.

What is your processor? How are your gfx set in game for HL2?

The problem with HL2 sounds like the CPU's fault. Does CSS lag when you shoot barrels? If yes, then it's the CPU.
