Why all the sexual censorship in the media?

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before (I haven't been around here for a bit), but I was reading a Radiohead interview about their Paranoid Android video, and they said in the US MTV censored the woman's breasts (it's a cartoon), whereas they didn't have any problem showing a man cut his own arms and legs off and Thom Yorke found that pretty interesting.

Why is sexual content censored so much in the media? In Europe and many other places of the world people embrace the human body (kids can buy magazines that show women's breasts - British FHM, British Maxim, etc.) but they don't care about violence at all? Is this right?

I know that some censorship is good, in fact it's needed, but I think we're censoring too much and making sexuality too "hush hush". If we were a bit more open about it in a mature manner I don't think any harm would come of it. I don't buy into all that teen pregnancy will rise stuff - I think us censoring and chiding it drives kids to curiosity more than it prevents sexual thoughts.
 
When I lived in Europe I noticed all of these things..

The kids I would hang out with.. their parents would have no problem with them watching Playboy TV (which was just part of the regular programming late at night on regular channels) but they wouldnt be allowed to watch Terminator 2...

 
Hell when I was a kid, back in 1989, some movies still had nude scenes on public television. There was a law or act that was in the 90s that changed all that and now they just censor it or cut it out. I think it has something to do with the baby boomer's paranoia of human sexuality.-
 
Because we have all these uptight asswad groups that have beef with everything. People had a fit over the Victoria's Secret fashion show(s) which showed absolutely no nudity whatsoever.

*shrugs* Does violence make kids more curious about violence? Does sex make them more curious about sex? I think both push them to "grow up" faster than they maybe should. Curious kids "experimenting" can make babies. I don't think either really belong in children-accessible media.
 
People are generally curious about sex starting from when they are kids. I don't think it will damage a 12 year old boy if he sees a naked woman on TV but I'm not sure what the excessive violence will do to him.

I guess everything in moderation !
 
that's why we should shelter all children from the violence and smut of the world. be a good parent and lock your kid in a dark closet.
