Why all the errors in Microsoft updates lately?

Good question. Here at work I downloaded and installed the same 3 Windows Vista updates five times! Each time was successful.

Also on a Windows 7 pc with MS Office I got pushed updates for Access and Visio which are not installed and did not come with the Office software I purchased. I refused those updates. Good call, judging by the article linked to.

Another thing that annoys me that I've noticed recently is that if you check the box to hide the silverlight update, it keeps reappearing as an option when you check for updates again!

I have noticed that as well and i have never installed silverlight ever.

I had the problem with XP. After the 3rd update with the same 3 files, I took action. Instead of Express, I chose Custom, and unchecked all 3. Then I checked "Do not notify me any more on these." That ended the cycle - the system is happy. Evidently, the update did not check Update History which shows those already installed.
