Why a few years in age makes a big difference when young but not when old

A 10 year old is 10x the age of a 1 year old.

But fast forward 100 years later the older one would be 110 and the younger would be 100 which is only a 10% age difference.

I was trying to explain this to a friend when discussing age of consent laws and he just did not get it.

Age of consent is mostly* pass/fail, not graded on a curve.

* Some locales apparently provide some latitude among teens of similar age.

It's called math.

Why are you discussing people on a logarithmic scale? Seems like a poor choice of scales to use, given human timelines.
