Why 875 verse 865 chipset for P4

Looking at the most recent article, it appears that Intel will be changing to the 775 socket for chips in the first or second quarter if 2004. If that is true then the 865 and 875 chipsets are almost overwith, and therefore why would anyone want to buy an 875 when the 865 seems more versatable with a broader range of usage?

Thanks in advance.

intel didn't expect mobo manufacturers to figure out how to enable PAT, so there was supposed to be a performance difference to justify different prices.

Some people will still buy 875 because the chip has passed testing for PAT by intel while 865 chips have not. It's like overclocking, you can say "why buy a 2.8C when you can OC at 2.4C" but some of us prefer guaranteed reliability over the cheaper price.

is firewire standard on the 865 chipset? or just the 875? the 865 mobo i was looking at didn't have it, but i wasn't sure if it was just the manufacturer...
