However, keeping that in mind, I see no reason to want a Rear projection TV. Compared to a good Plasma, there are so few advantages and so many disadvantages.

What do you feel are the major advantages and disadvantages of RPTVs as compared to plasma displays?

This is for CRT Projection.

Dis
[*]lower Resolution
[*]not flat
[*]poor Geometry
[*]poorer overall picture quality
[*]bad viewing angles

Adv
[*]bargain prices

Are you joking? Apparently you haven't seen a properly calibrated RPROJ CRT.

THE ONLY disadvantage is size, and maybe viewing angles with some.

Check out Mr.Bob's setup on AVS.

Perhaps but that constitutes what? .01% of RP CRTs? The guy wants you to pay him to fix the shitty picture on your RPTV. In fact, here is another disadvantage. They're a hassle.

They can be for the average user, you are correct there.
But, plasmas are pretty much disposable because of their complexity and lack of individual replaceable parts.
After about 3-4 years if you don't clean the optics they turn to shite.

Whatever happened to our optical cable argument?

Just tell me what to post and in what forum and I will.
There is no difference.

The main issue of 720p vs 1080p is not image quality at all, its image viewing space. I would rather watch a movie in 1080p simply because you get a bigger higher quality picture vs 720p smaller screen space.

I used to be one of those "can't tell a difference between DVD and 720p quality people", but since I got my 24inch Dell monitor I can't stand to watch 720p over 1080p cause of the difference in screen size vs quality ratio. I can "almost" fit 2 720p movies running at same time in screen space a 1080p movie takes, given that example wouldn't you rather use the whole screen and not lose quality in 1080p? Seems straight forward to me.

buy a quality tv instead of using computer monitors. Image space isnt the issue at all in this debate.
