My bro in law is interested in setting up a home server with WHS, but he only has a 2 Macbooks in the house. He'd like to use the server as a media server and will be purchasing a tablet for his son. Is it pretty easy to setup Macs as clients for WHS2011? I've never even used a Mac before and I'm not sure the connector software is available for Macs.

Unfortunately this doesn't work with the latest version(s) OSX. I had to build a FreeNAS box (I did a VM first) with AFP shares. The share permissions matched the OSX user's credentials. Once I did that I was able to use Time Machine to point to the AFP share I created. Everything is backing up as expected.

The connector does work in OSX now, but backups don't work out of the box. I do see the Mac as a client in WHS2011's Dashboard, but don't get backup detail information.

FWIW... I also used the FreeNAS box to create a SMB share. I backup my WHS 2011 server to that share instead of an external hard drive.
