WHS with direct wired connection and wireless

So I'm thinking about giving WHS another go on an older computer. I originally set it up and it seemed to work pretty well except that because I am on a wireless network I couldn't really do backups. I knew this would be a limitation, but unfortunately my apartment is completely wireless.

This time I would have the WHS right next to my main working laptop. So I was wondering, since the PC i'm using has a NIC and a wireless card, could I directly connect the WHS to my laptop via a crossover cable and then have the wireless be active for getting the internet connection?

Thanks!

If your main computer runs an OS that allow bridging you can connect the WHS to the second NIC, and Bridge it in the main computer to the Network.
