Ok I have 3 pc.

1. Windows xp
2. Windows 7
3 Windows home server 2008

now the windows xp computer has no problem accessing the home server It runs perfectly

The windows 7 computer is a little different
Can do
1. Remote access through Internet explorer
2. Can access files and folders

Cant do
1. I cant save anything onto the server through the windows 7 pc
2. I tried to place the password and username in through explorer it kept coming up with errors saying incorrect password. I restarted the pc to see if that would help and when i clicked on the server through explorer I didnt ask for a password it just allowed me to access the folders like read only. I can access but cant save anything new to it.

Now This is very frustrating because I have files I NEED to save to my whs and I cant. Its a big pain everytime I have to save soemthing I need to save it to an external hdd then walk it over to the server then drag them into the correct folders. It can take up to 20mins per each time I need to. Coping 100g to an external drive then off the external drive really is very slow.

I do have the whs console software installed I have tried reinstalling the software also

So if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate the help

I should also state that the windows 7 pc is being backed up onto the whs every nite and has yet to have a problem with that or come up with any errors

I haven't run into this problem, but I mostly use "professional" versions of XP, Vista, and Win7, which are easier to work with when trying to authenticate across a network.

Do your Win7 computers require passwords to log onto them?
Do you have identical accounts on the WHS? (i.e. identical account names with identical passwords)
Do the shared data folders on WHS have the correct permission settings for each user account?
Are there any name resolution problem in the network? Can you reach any PC or server from any other PC or server, simply by typing the NAME of the computer you are trying to reach?

1. Yes it does
2. what do you mean by identical accounts. like my logon for windows 7 is the same for whs
3. I have full access to all folders put on for each one.
4. I can access the server from each pc but my windows 7 cant communicate with the athlon xp compute.

Ya its just such a wierd problem. I can access all the data on the server but when I try to write to them it says permission not allowed even though whs folders are set to full permission under the console.

I just wanna restate yes I made sure that the username and password have full access to whs but cant write to them only read folders. very wierd

EDIT:: I owe jack an apoligy I thought POWER PACK 3 was installed it is not.
a. It will not show up under windows update
b. I cant find the download anywhere.
c. every place i have looked said to use windows update but windows update has no information.
d. i am know pounding my head on my desk lol sorry for the mis information.

Have you tried going into your "Stored User Names and Passwords" on your client PC (in the User Accounts control panel) and deleting anything related to the WHS Server?

The Win7 user account on the WHS machine should have the same username and password as the actual Win7 username and password. If this is set properly, you shouldnt ever see a username/password prompt.

If you don't have any backups or user data for the win7 machine on the WHS box, you could delete the user on WHS and create that account again.

If you don't see PP3 on Windows Update, you may have the beta installed. You need to uninstall the beta before you see PP3 in Windows Update. I'm pretty sure you also need PP2 installed to see PP3, etc.

Personally, I'd wait on PP3 until your other issue is solved.

Since it is done online if the Update Server does not see the PP2 it will install it first, and then will download and install the PP3.

Should be here,

the problem is solved I went under user accounts deleted the server creditals and placed in my own real ones. after that it worked perfectly. Thank you all for your help and special things to the guy that told me about the passwords under the control panel. Before I thought it only saved windows logon info now I know it saves all sorts of passwords

Then you have the PP3 BETA installed. The released version does show "PowerPack 3" in the server control panel.
