WHS and duplicate files

I helped a friend get their WHS server up and running last weekend. I created a new share called mediatemp in order to copy movies from two different hard drives that may have some of the same file.. does WHS do any type of deduplication automatically? it seems like some of the files ive copied have gone missing... i did not know if this is a feature or not.
 
The "de-duplication" stuff is only for BACKUPS (as in WHS backing up client computers). It doesn't affect file shares.

Did you create the new share using the WHS Console? That's the only "supported" way to do it.
