Me and friend are having quite the tassle. We've been best friends since about ninth grade (we're both sophomores in college right now). His father pretty much got me my current job. After I started working there (~1.5 years) his father started disliking me. My friend had a party over the summer while his parents where gone and I attended and drank. The house was totally trashed and the father become angry at his son, but also at me. He was mad that I attended the party even though I'm his coworker.

Flash forward to tonight. On my Xanga site, I had a picture of his daughter from the mid 80s, in which she had a striking resemblence to Joe Dirt that was taken by his son on his digital camera and put on his website, so I downloaded it and put it as my profile picture. The father finds this tonight, and leaves me a note demanding it be taken down by Tuesday morning or I'll be receiving a call from a lawyer. Also in the note are many deroggatory comments (calling me stupid, disrespectful, etc.) So, being a little mischevious, I took the picture down and replaced it with a plain image that states "Image removed due to legal issues".

My friend became angry that I was doing this, knowing it will make his father angry. Now we're arguing, him about how I should take it down and show some respect, me about how I am keeping it up because I didn't receive respect in the first place.

Who do you think is right?

Sounds pretty immature all around.

Be the more mature person and take it down and just forget about it. Its not worth upsetting a longtime friendship.

I'd say, try and explain to the father that it was done in good humor, and that you didn't mean any disrespect- if the dad doesn't like the pic on the internet, he should talk to his son.

The guy took it as a slight against his daughter, of course he was pissed.

Why would you intentionally insult a co-workers daughter if its him you had the problem with?

Grow up.

Edit:

Guess I mis-read who you were concerned about insulting. The grow-up part still stands.

That's not the point I was asking.

I now know I erred by putting the picture up. I took it down when requested to do so. I just don't see why I should show respect to the father when I received no respect in the first place.

The picture had been up for about a year. He just found it, and I acted promptly and took it down.

I just don't see the problem with putting the second image up.

I'm the son/friend in this situation...my father is the City Editor of our local newspaper, OP is a sports writer...my dad was looking at xanga pages because they were writing a story on them...OP has since taken the new picture/post down

you need to get your act together, because if you scored a job with this guy, you are expected to act more professional around him (and his family).
