I got a 19 inch Hitachi from 1985

It's the only TV I got, been thinking of upgrading to a larger TV

The picture on the TV is still fantastic

The TV has never been serviced

PS2 games look good and so do DVD's

Only reason I see to upgrade is that the cabinet is sorta big and it's only 19 inches

I also have a Magnavox VCR from 1991 that still works like new

How long can a TV last with a good picture?

There's a Sony TV in my house that's older than I am (born in 1985) still works amazingly well, and also never has been serviced. I can't tell you when we got it though (for obvious reasons)

I think on the back of most TV's are a date to when it was made.

We have a 21" Electrohome from like 1983-84. Picture is fantastic, no servicing, original remote still works great. Can't say about DVDs as we don't have a set top player, but VHS movies are crystal clear.

Our VCR is a 1986-7 Toshiba. Serviced twice times, once shorty after we got it for a tuner problem, again last year when one of the drive moters went. It was slightly cheaper to repair than replace, and since it works better and is easier to use than many new ones we've still got it.

Also have a 15" Misubishi TV from 1995, picture is starting to go on it.

As for a good TV, I really can't say. Depends on make and model I'd guess.

I have a 19 incher, no remote, NOT CABLE READY, but it does have push buttons instead of a dail so its probably 70s. Can't remember the brand and I am not at home to look at it. Its my bedroom tv. I had to use one of those adapters to hook it up to my cable box and I use the box's remote.

1970-74..some where in there ....RCA...wooden cabinet and everything

STEP-DA REFUSES TO GET RID OF IT:|

"But it still works. When it dies I MIGHT get a new one"

When I took my stereo upstairs for a week I had a kickass DTS setup with a early 1970's display...

THE BAD PART is he's right...it still looks good...better than a 1990s Mitsubishi have and a 1996ish SHARP

19" Mitsubishi from 1976.
Still works just fine (except the light on the VHF tuner dial is burned out, and the UHF dial is off by one channel, and I had to put a new volume knob on it)

I have a 28 year old tv thats has still has a good picture but the VHF tuner is all messed up. And the UHF dial works fine though.

Not used as main TV but still has a good picture. Never serviced. If it did it would be thrown out.

Oldest I personally have is a 19" color TV I bought on my first co-op semester...sometime around Christmas 1986. Still works great!

My dad has a GE 25" console set with a remote the size of a brick that's from the late 70s/early 80s and while it works, the picture just isn't so hot.

My mom has a 27" Sony console from 1981 that still looks good. My only TV is a top-end Philips 27" from 1990, which I use with my little home theater, and is still fine.

My 20" Sony is from the mid-80s and has SURVIVED being completely submerged in a flood in Hawaii; being shipped to and from Hawaii by UPS (!!!) - even DROPPED by them at least 6' since the TV case cracked when it was double boxed; UPS' insurance paid for it since the Off/On button cracked - STILL works perfectly even though I must use the remote to turn it Off and On.

i've got this 13" toshiba tv from the 60's or 70's that's got knob style channel selectors. it's got one for VHF and one for UHF. it also has two sets of connections for them. i can't even hook up a dvd player without one of those special adapters for the rca cables. i'm not planning on getting a new one anytime soon.

Yep . . . 120% return of original purchase price and it's still going strong for nearly 20 years . . . my only reguret was not to call Sony with pics of the then flooded and finally working TV . . . would have made a great commercial.
