This came out a couple weeks ago, but I really can't wait for this.

I suspect that my contract with at&t and Apple will be half over before this sees the light of day. Have they even given it to the FCC yet?

As far as I know, just the hardware is ok'd by the FCC, they can slap the OS on any approved phone. I suspect we'll see it on something like the HTC Diamond or Dream (not sure about the phone names, but a large touch screen phone)

I might be wrong tho...

even in it's beta stage it already looks loads better than WM, how people can code their own interface could lead to some really cool designs. But by the time you can actually buy a phone with the OS on it, the iPhone SDK will have been in full swing for a bunch of months. I don't see what this Android OS will be able to do that won't be able to be done on an iPhone. I want to see what the Android community looks like in a year. Will be interesting to see what programs will be written for it.

I'd still put my money on the iPhone 2.0, but I dunno Google might be on to something here.

What I like is that there's finally some competition in the market, the telecom companies strangled smartphones for a long time...

and app distribution. this whole apps store thing doesn't seem like the best of ideas. have those early "rejected" developers been able to be approved yet? Or are they still out cold?

while the app store limits the apps one can get, it also keeps the content of a certain quality. Apps can't just get added they have to be checked for viruses and backdoors and shit. I fear the Android will have a lot of questionable software for it, I could see some hacker writing an app that will send your phone book content to them so they can get phone # & Email addresses to spam.

I actually like the idea of Apple approving of the content they allow for the store, also with jailbreaking you can add apps that aren't approved. So it's really the best of both worlds.

Andriod probably has some competition now that Symbian is open source. Especially since symbian is already in tons of phones.
