I have the PC3220 card. I get about 400k d/l average with three bars of signal when testing in a downtown area. (That's about half of basic DSL speed). Other people get better speeds with different cards. I do not use the Venturi accelerator software which is supposed to help.

I have lousy signal at my house so it's unusable there.

But I'll tell you what's fabulous - not being dependent on free WiFi when traveling!

suse, you zeroed in on his reference of dslreports and thought dsl. I almost did the same thing.

To answer the question, over tethered EVDO connection on my LG VX8100, I can get about 500-600kbps (50-60Kb/s) sustained. But I don't abuse this too much because I like not being banned and having to pay an ETF for violation of terms.

Even if I had the real service/card, I would definitely not replace my 8mbit/768k cable modem.

The best I ever got was around 600kb/sec. Again, it could be related to the cellular modem card I have. I'm told that newer models do better.

confused here... do you have a VZW phone with a plan allowing you to use their EVDO service ? What's ETF and why are you concerned about violating terms ?

Verizon TOS prohibits using an EVDO phone hooked up to a PC to act as a modem. That's "tethering". Some people report getting huge bills from Verizon after getting caught, most people say that's BS.

ETF = early termination fee

I'd guess some sort of hardware address.
