My wife, who is asian, keeps telling me that. I thought she was joking, but she rips on other vietnamese with the nastiest slurs reserved for that nationality. She wasn't joking. She was lying through her teeth.

Seriously, I'm beginning to think she's got a certified case of Moonbeam-variety self-hate.

She calls me her great white cross. I call her my yellow ball and chain.

The best defense against racism is humor.

You're an idiot. So is your wife.

But also the one getting the most attention.

His example was of a teacher citing FBI arrest statistics. (which I assume are not subject to availability bias) I think his point would still make sense for your town, if you used FBI arrest statistics you would see the race that makes up the majority of the population also makes up the majority of the arrests. Which goes back to the English teacher who was making a claim that more blacks being arrested in DC was a case of racism.

Its because white barbies are more rare, rarer things have higher prices... right?

Ok, yeah, its because people buy more white barbies, that doesn't mean racism, it means people have a preference for white toned dolls (at least the people with are spending their money on barbies do.)

Or it could mean that the name "Barbie" has strong consumer goodwill because the branding is popular and goes back decades, and since the "white" doll is called "Ballerina Barbie" and the "black" doll is called "Ballerina Teresa," naturally the white doll pulls in more sales. Could really be as simple as that.

What's exactly wrong with racism or being a racist? I don't see a problem being label a racists. Racism has exist for thousands of years and I am pretty sure racism will continue to exist as long as human exist.

The only thing WRONG with racism is when asshole like Jassie Jackson use it every single chance he got to score political point and for his selfish desire.

There's nothing wrong with racism because it's existed for thousands of years? Interesting argument. Child rape has existed for thousands of years as well. Anything wrong with it?

Where's black ken? lol.

The child is also a mix apparently, unless black people generally perm their 5 year old's hairs straight.

So you know how they call white people who act sterotypically black "wiggers"?

Does that mean that the mom and daughter there are whacks?

Black ken is doing 50 to life after car jacking White Ken. /joke

Or maybe it mirrors reality? Ever look at the teen pregnancy rates for Black people?

I'd imagine if it were a stereotypical "nuclear family" type of black doll setup there would be an outrage with the fact that /insertsAlSharptonVoice "These dolls not represent the realities of Black people and Black families across America".

In the end you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I remember when "Black Leaders" were decrying the 'Cosby' show because it was not a realistic representation of the "Black Experience" in America.

Heh, instead of teaching kids all these political correct crap, it's 100x more practically to teach kids what the real world is about. Yeap, racism exist, discrimination exists, world is a cold and unfair place. Learn to deal with it rather than be ignorant and pretend like everything is okay.

I don't know, I think telling kids the world sucks and they can't (and SHOULDN'T) do anything to change that is a terrible lesson. Political correctness, as you put it, isn't about misrepresenting how the world works, but discussing how the world SHOULD work.

Teaching kids about an ideal that society doesn't live up to, and encouraging them to try to make it happen, is much more "practical" than teaching them to just go along with the crowd. If only because change is possible, and does happen, and since the folks who MAKE it happen aren't going to come out of your defeatist philosophy, they have to come from somewhere.

Edit: All that said, this story is kind of stupid. People buy what they want to buy, it's not the fault of a retailer if they don't buy toys in a racially balanced way.

Newsflash:
White persons, percent, 2008 (a) 79.8%
Black persons, percent, 2008 (a) 12.8%

Although, logically, it would've made more sense to simply tell the professor that in DC, most crimes are committed by black people. I live in an area that is largely rural, and the only murders we've had in the past few years involved minorities in the population. Your argument wouldn't have made much sense here even if the arrests were not racist.

Nationally:
In 2008, 69.2 percent of all persons arrested were white; 28.3 percent were black; and the remaining 2.4 percent were of other races.

In DC:
Percentage of population that is black: 54.4%

Of course more crimes will be commited by blacks in an area that is predominately black.

Girls tend to buy dolls that look like them and there are a lot more white girls than black girls in the US (dunno what the most recent ratio is but it used to be ~10 to 1).

True. Also Black people may buy less dolls than white people do on average, so the lower price may up the sells...The ratio nowadays for what its worth, is 1:1, theres 1 white kid for every non white kid.

Its hard to trust crime statistics when the numbers are fudged up intentionally. Hispanics commit more crimes on average than white people, yet they are not shown on the statistics. And thats because they are labled as white when one commits a crime but are labled as Hispanic if one is a victim. That applies even if two Hispanic people are arrested for assaulting each other, one will be counted as white [aggressor] while the other as Hispanic [victim]. So the numbers are screwed up from the get-go making crime statistics flawed.

So the 69.2% for white folks includes hispanics [14% of the population]...Remove that 14%, and increase it some, and white folks commit 50% of crimes or less.

I know hispanics can be any race, but most are not white.

And that other bracket is made up of Asians who are definately not crime-prone [much of that is culture/family where you would get your ass beat if you ever thought of getting booked in jail for speeding...let alone robbing someone].
