i really hope there are people alot smarter then me with computers, no doubt there are plenty, becuase i am STUMPED! having 3 problems on a new computer build, i would appreciate any help.

1 - INTERNET: last night built and then installed OS (windows xp with SP2). everything seemed fine, used internet to update drivers, download new programs as needed. left computer on overnight. this morning i try to use computer and its so slow makes me cry. 3minutes to load a webpage. its just so slow downloading the icons / buttons on webpages that its unusable. i rebooted, reset the internet connection...problem still persists.

2 - QUICKLAUCH TOOLBAR - i use the quicklauch toolbar, great way to keep a desktop clean and no need to double click :) . it seems that when i click an item in my quicklauch toolbar it launches 2 instances of the program. this is problematic as in combo with the above problem(slow internet loading) it bascially makes the program "not responding" and i have to taskmanager kill it.

3 - MOUSE - i use a normal mouse connection to the back of the computer (the round input cable thing i can't think of the name right now). and i use a USB connection keyboard. the keyboard works great, however the mouse will only work EVERY OTHER RESTART. basically everytime i reboot to update stuff or turn off the computer, i have to restart it again right away for the mouse to function. seems a very weird problem but its consistant. always works every 2nd restart / reboot.

Thank you for reading. i hope some people can lend a hand to fixing these problems as this is my first computer build and i am now stumpd.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (754)
MSI K8neo Platinum (754)
Muskin 512mb pc3200 basic (1stick in dimm1)
NEC 16x dvd +-RW
Seagate 8mb 7200rpm 120gb (windows xp reads it as 114gb ??)
nvidia 6600GT 128mb AGP8x
Aspire 500w PSU (12v@34A)
Windows XP pro w/ SP2

thanks again folks for the help

I imagine you'll get other responses than mine that will go into greater detail. I'm pressed for time, so have to be brief.

Looks to me like you may have outlined the cause of most, if not all, of your problems early on in your post, but you didn't give us enough info to be sure. If you were connected directly to the Internet through a broadband modem with no network address translation / firewall / router / whatever and left the system turned on and connected to the Internet all night then your system has been owned by everyone and his Aunt Agnes. (You probably have lots of spyware, adware, and maybe Trojans and viruses and worms on the system.) If I have guessed right about this, don't even think about trying to fix your current installation. Just disconnect the system from the Internet (physically), and start over. If the Windows XP version you have does not have service pack 2 incorporated into it, get one that does, or get the so-called admin version of it so that you can install SP2 BEFORE you connect to the Internet. Also, put something useful between your computer and the broadband modem, like a router that performs at least NAT. It would be nicer yet if the router you use has stateful packet inspection, but NAT is an absolute must.

If the above is not your situation, then you might come back to the thread with a list of the processes showing in Task Manager's processes tab and the CPU time they are taking. That might be a decent starting place to find out what is wrong.

PS: I am probably not smarter than you, but I think you might have been better off posting this in the operating systems forum. ;)
