Who's selling their iphone for the pre?

I'm seriously debating it, considering the plans are cheaper on Sprint and the early reviews of the phone seem to be pretty positive. Are any of you considering doing this?

Well, I do not have an iPhone, but if I did, I probably wouldn't.

However, another thing for you to consider beyond just the plan price difference is the service quality in your area. Sprint's 3G network is faster (or so I have heard) but if they don't have 3G coverage in your area, but AT&T does (or vice versa) then that is a lot of the decision right there.

gotta wait to see how app support turns out. And it may be a bust. But on paper and on reviews it seems much better than iphone minus all the apps.

Also required service plans are bullshit and i wont buy either. Though i had a 2g refurb (no contract needed) for a bit and sold it on ebay.

Though my n800 is showing a bit of wear and i do need a replacement soon. Mostly for skype, and a book reader. Wonder if pre will have skype.

I have been having some serious issues with my iphone. I am getting a loud tone on the other end when the other person stops speaking. The phone has been replaced by apple 3 times and the sim card has been swapped out as well....still get the tone. I have come to the conclusion that its a problem with AT&T's service and told them I'm done with them unless they can fix this issue.

I have been looking at the Pre and going with Sprint. I can get a unlimited family data plan for something like $110 with 1500 minutes.

I thought about it, but...nah. I have tons of apps and access to 25,000+ more. It works with iTunes and the rest of my Mac stuff (address book, etc.). It's easy to use. I don't care about physical vs. software keyboards at all. So really the only thing the Pre offers me is a spiffier interface, which you can pretty much do if you hack the firmware.

Meh.

Too many negatives against it for me right now, though I really do like it's design and how it's finally got apple scared.

No GSM is a no go for me, I go international too much to have to worry about having multiple phones.

No App Store, no GSM, no iTunes integration for music (this is the big one- I am not going back to a phone+an iPod). Oh, and no iTunes integration for video, no real games, and little prospects for future serious game development. That right there is enough for me to not even think about it. But the kicker is that Palm hasn't made a new operating system in years (like, a decade). Even if it weren't for all the other reasons, I'd have to be certain that the new OS was any good before I switched.

Also, good luck getting a Pre when it's out. Best Buy claims they are only getting 4,400 for ALL their stores across the US.

I would seriously consider getting one if it turns out to really rock, but Palm hasn't let anyone touch the phone for more than 5 mins that has a journalistic background, so there's literally no information about how it really performs day to day. Plus Sprint, in my area, is AWFUL.

To answer the OP's question, heck no!!! First off, the phone is on Sprint. The experience I had from when they took over Nextel, is still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The fact that they are still losing 1million+ customers a quarter, for their 7th straight, tells me things haven't improved. Until it does, I'll stay the hell away!!!

Next is the Pre itself. It's totally untested, and is made by Palm, a company on it's last legs. Sure, the early demos of it look great, but the same could be said for the Storm, G1, and, Experia X1. As far as I'm concerned, none of them come close to the iPhone.

I'm rooting for the Pre, and I'd like to see it take off. I was a big fan of Palm, and their PDA stuff. However, the early buzz I'm seeing makes me think this will just be the latest "iPhone killer" to fail.

Right off the bat, Sprint's CEO Dan Hesse is saying he doesn't plan to give the Pre much ad time, because they anticipate shortages. The word is there are only 375,000 units to be had on June 6, and they have to be divided up among all the places that carry Sprint. I was in my local Best Buy yesterday, and they don't plan on having a demo, because they won't be getting 10 Pre phones to sell.

I don't know if this is Sprint & Palm trying to make an artificial demand for the Pre, or if that's all Palm can deliver. Either way, it doesn't bode well for them. It's just going piss people off. With Apple almost guaranteed to announce the next iPhone on June 8th, they can't afford to do that.

This mirrors my thoughts exactly... Over the years, I've owned a lot of Palm based PDA's and a Handspring or 2, great devices for their time, but I don't see them capturing the smart phone market or even a decent share any time soon.

Pre owners will be beta testing for Palm, and I suspect the Pre may just kill Palm or make it irrelevant in the very near future.

I would love a Pre. I've always been a fan of Palm devices, mostly because their form factor is unbeatable. So far, Palm is the only manufacturer that knows how to make a smartphone keyboard, and one of the very few that makes smartphones that are good phones.

Sprint's insistence on new plans, though, will probably stop me. The only reason I stay with them is because of SERO. If I can't get a Pre on that, I'll probably just stick with my Palm Centro until it dies.

I will take a look at the Pre and see how it developes but I won't be switching in the near term. Between new iPhone software and likely new hardware, I doubt the Pre will be compelling enough to make the switch.

One thing that might get me to switch would be cost. If a basic phone plan, unlimited data plan with tethering (NO caps) was offered for say, less than $90, I might be tempted. Although the speed while tethered would have to be pretty good. I doubt that will happen but who knows? I can always hope.

Give it 6 months and ask again. It's a new OS, it's going to be a rough launch just like the iPhone was, and in the mean time Palm has a pretty poor track record.

I've only had my iPhone six months and I'm happy with it so no. I haven't really been following the Pre. No idea on what features it has other than it's supposedly an iPhone killer. I doubt it though since Palm doesn't have the brand loyalty Apple does.

I think this question might be a little premature, at least until we see what new iphone (if any) comes out of WWDC...

^ I think the OP is asking about the Pre (what we currently know of it), and the current iPhone.

The next version of iPhone OS is going to add some features the Pre has, but I honestly do not think the Pre is going to make much of a dent in iPhone sales. I am not terribly interested in getting a Pre, and that has nothing to do with it not being available in Canada.

The next version of the iPhone is only going to further cement its' place among the Smartphone crowd.

Cheers

I have a HTC Touch Diamond... and while Windows Mobile 6.1 is a bit finicky I enjoy how much flexibility I have with this phone.

There is not a central app store, but I can find almost anything I want and mainly free. There is a huge community for ROM development and lots of themes and customization available.

The best thing is my carrier has a $50 plan with 500 minutes , mobile to mobile, unlimited texting, and unlimited data that gets around 1.25Mbps download. ATT can't touch that price and I get better service in my state than people with ATT phones.

The iPhone is pretty sharp though, but I just don't want ATT. If I had one it would have to be jailbroken for me to like it.
