I can't believe AMD would do this. The best feature of the Duron is its overclockability (although it still kicks a cel2's ass without). I would rather get an Athlon or PIII then a Duron seeing as the prices keep dropping. I think we need to send AMD a sharp messege and tell them not to lock the Duron.

For AMD the remarking potential is worth more than the off of a few sales to the 0.01% of the population who are tweakers :(

However, modifying the chip itself is still the best way to remark, because it isn't obvious to the user. But, they could do it easier with the BIOS method (but only in prebuilt systems).

He is a lot better than he used to be.

If you read the preamble to the Duron review he does rant about how he predicted the impact of the K7 2 years ago, which kind of annoys me because he really didnt say much and in the same article he also commented on how the K3 was going to be a real competitor to the Slot 1 cpus (which are still doing nicely).

Basically i think he has a somewhat inflated opinion of himself, and has shown himself to have some pretty strongs biases in the past. His site however is good to compare to other reviews, though i would no longer trust his view alone.

Dink, who are you to call Tom dumb. I don't like tom's as much as anandtech, but its still a good site and the man himself is really smart.
