Who's Read Body for Life?

I read much of it recently. Two friends of ours did it earlier this year and made great gains from it. It basically takes good excercise and eating and puts it into a concise form for the layman to digest. I'd recommend it if you're a beginner. It's a great place to start. If you follow it you WILL benefit.

And yes it's an entire program spelled out in the book. A "12 week" transformation. Of course you can't revert back to old habits afterwards.

It's a book that advocates a program which consists of eating upwards of 6 small meals a day, along with proper exercise. Obviously, like any other diet, there's a list foods to eat and foods to avoid. It's not rocket science but it produces results if your dedicated.

I have a lot of years of training under my belt, and if I was to recommend one book for those wishing to get into fantastic shape, the book I would recommend is: Body Rx by Dr. Scott Connelly. The principles laid out in this book are very similar to the same principles and techniques I've used over the 17 years I've been bodybuilding. Once again, it's not rocket science.

Hmm do you live in a hotel all the time...? In regards to diet you can always buy protein shakes, meal replacement bars, etc.

I'm in a hotel room from Mon-Thu every week probably through October.

I have no car, either, so I have access to room service, area restaurants, and office cafeteria.
I also have a small, hotel gym that I am using.

Limited, I know 🙁

So is it still possible?
 
I recommend it as a read for people who are just beginning to exercise/eat properly. It is an excellent, fun to read book that lays out all of the information there in a simple to understand format. The chapters with people telling their stories are also very motivating IMHO. That said, I read it and took the most of the stuff from it, but tweaked it to fit myself.

The diet is very simple to follow, either a healthy meal from the listed foods, or one of EAS's meal replacement shakes/bars/something. Basically 5-6 meals a day. It would be difficult to follow the diet without a kitchen to cook stuff, but I guess you can just eat healthy and drink the shakes and get away alright. Back when I was working 84 hours a week, the only meal I had to cook was dinner, the rest was either protein shakes, or something quick and easy like a sandwich. I would recommend a blender to make your shakes so you can throw some fruit in there.
 
Hmm I think it's possible especially with a big cooler in your car and a lot of ice 🙂

Is there a local gym you have access to?

You could also get a portable stove or something. Just don't tell hotel management and be sure to hide it 😀

Sure. if your eating in a fast food restaurant, scan the menu for the best lean protein sources. Most fast food joints offer a version of a grilled chicken sandwich, or plain beef hamburger. Just ditch the bun and load up on the greens. If you're eating in hotel restaurants, once again, look for the best lean protein sources like chicken breast, fish, or lean meat. Ask for grilled vegetables instead of potatoes. Load up on the salad bar (pass on the Croutons!)

When I have to travel on airplanes for business, I'll bring a few Lebrada Protein Bars with me, and eat one of those on the plane.
 
So these shakes and whatnot are in place of your meals during the day?

Can they be made without a blender? I don't see myself lugging a blender to and from my hotel every week.

Its basically a low carb, higher protien diet. The book recommends you eat six small meals instead of three larger ones. THat may be hard to do in a hotel.
 
I read it, it's a great book. I followed it except for the weight training and lost 20 lbs over a number of months. No suprise since I stopped, I haven't lost any weight 🙁

If you work out, shakes are to be consumed almost immediately after. If you are hungry/time to eat you can supp a shake in for a meal. Yes, they can be made without a blender, and using milk (skim) works better than water. However my friend takes his with water and uses a spoon. I can?t stomach that though.

Obviously shakes aren't convenient if you're living out of a suitcase. Keep the shakes for when your home or have access to a blender. I suppose if you were really keen you could bring a shaker cup with you and make them in your hotel, but they'd end up somewhat lumpy and gross.

 
I like this 5-6 meals a day thing.

So Sample day:

8:30 am - one of those shakes, piece of fruit (apple or banana)
12:00pm - tuna or turkey sandwich (no cheese, rye bread), small salad (vinegar dressing)
3:30pm - shake thing, piece of fruit
6:30pm - protein bar right before workout
7:30pm - another shake right after workout
8:30pm - some sort of light dinner


Does that sound about right?
 
The book will spell out the meals if you buy it 😉 Try walmart BTW I see them selling it for $17 instead of the normal $26.

In regards to shakes I love met-rx myself. If you have a shaker (basically any container - you can buy one from GNC or just buy a plastic container with a sturdy lid from walmart) you can throw water in on top of the powder and shake it for a minute and you can remove all the lumps. That's what I have for breakfast every damn day of the week.
