Who's picking up Metal Gear Solid: Essentials Collection?

I played and beat the original MGS back in the day on my PS1, but I've never played MGS2 or 3, so I think I'm going to pick up the Essentials collection and check them out. Anyone else going to buy or re-buy the collection? I've heard the controls get almost to the point of insanity by the 3rd game, hoping I don't get too annoyed by it and quit playing 🙂.

I thought about it but then I realized I already own all of them, so it would be pointless. It would be different if it was some kind of special collector's packaging or something, like say this, but it's just a dull bundle.

I don't have Substance or Subsistence, though. I was looking into getting Subsistence until I discovered that Konami shut down the multiplayer servers, which negates much of what makes (or made) Subsistence special.

Yeah, I was planning on just buying the used copies, but MGS 2 is $5 and MGS3 is $25, so I might as well just wait and get them new.

It would have been pretty cool if they had offered a PS3 version with all 3 games on a BD disc or something, this version just seems like milking the IP.

Ahh well, for $30, I'll still pick it up.

If you don't already have them then this is probably the set to buy if you are interested in the extra Substance/Subsistence materials. I've read that this doesn't include the second disk from MGS3: Subsistence, but I'm not sure what's on that.

Although, FYI, MGS3 is only $12.79 New on Amazon. MGS2 starts at $5.99 Used.

But like I said, if you're interested in the extras from 2 and 3, this is the best deal.

Yeah, it seems like they are jumping the gun on MG collections (especially the Japanese anniversary collection I linked to above), considering the fourth game isn't out yet and will supposedly be the last.

I guess that just means there will be a super duper deluxe collector's set in the future that will include MGS4 (and whatever extended Sub- version is subsequently released).
