Who's Making The Best Most Stable SLI?

I was just about to get a Abit KN8 SLi, but not sure, some people are saying with 2 cards SLI it only runs at 8x.

Hmm thought that was odd, thought the whole point of 16x, like this says:

Two PCI-Express X16 slots support NVIDIA Scalable Link Interface

Is suppose to run at 16x with 2 cards in it.

Anyhow does any board really stand out with any company right now as pretty tops in SLI?
Just not sure which SLI board I want, I hear so many good and bad, making it really tough.

I'm not into overclocking, I just want performance and stability and Abit has been my boards in the past and running at the moment, that's why I was looking at another.

THANKS

99.99% of all SLi boards run at 8x+8x with 2 cards,..16x to a single card,...thats how SLi has always been since day 1,with increased bandwidth from the SLi bridge that connects the 2 cards..only til this quarter of the fiscal year is 32x SLi becoming availible (16x+16x)

if you are against overclocking and dont see it happening with your system just grab a gigabyte k8n-sli board,..you can get one at newegg for 90bux and from what ive seen its a great board at stock clocks,...ABIT has always pimped overclocking so you will get a mass array of options for it in the bios if you decide to later on

Don't worry about the 8x\8x or 16x\16x SLI stuff, it really doesn't make a difference.

for some reason, the asus32 does a LOT (5-10frames i think?) better than other mobos. it probably has nothing to do with 16x/16x

So far the 32X advantage is on the high resolution with all AA and everything set to high. If you are still gaming at resolutions below 1600x1200 you will see little to no difference supposedly. nVidia is supposed to tweak their cards later on to take more advantage of the 32x but so far the current cards havent seen the tweaks. I'm guessing it'll be seen in the next generation cards whenever they make their debut next year (dont think there any more new nvidia cards scheduled to come out before Jan 1). The only possible exception may be the new 512Mb RAM cards that just came out. I havent heard how they make a difference if any with 32x.

I've had my system for quite a while now and have had x16 + x16 slots available since.

If there is a top dog for SLI it's surely the K8WE

and top dog for 939 is definately the A8N32-SLI.

Hot advice!
ribbon, you're not just another pretty face. 😀😀😀

Sheesh I was talking for home gaming systems, not that TYAN, LOL

That Tyan I think is a bit extreme for a home gaming system.

Is that to say that current cards don't need more than 8x bandwidth? I mean in single card config would a 256 meg GTX not use more than 8x? Im asking because I'd like to run mine in the second slot in order to get better cooling on the chipset. Anyone benchmarked the diff between the two slots on a regular board. I'd like to know if possible because I'll have to cut new openings before I can use that slot in my homebuilt case. I've got a 6800gt now & will prob. get a 7800gtx after the new releases & the price drops (hopefully).

I don't care for either Asus or Tyan, the Asus design with the SLI layout on that board, I think that is a poor design, I mean putting PCI slots in between the SLI, that's silly, to many people have cooling issues with this.

What do you guys think of the MSI NF4 mobo. I'm gonna pair it with an X2 3800+. I'm not an overclocker and have no immediate plans for SLI, but want to have that option in the future.

Your thoughts?

My Thoughts Are Thread Hijacking Get's You a Beating!

If you want to start making your own thread then please do so, but if you butt in someone elses post AKA HIJACK then please excuse yourself. 😉

As far as MSI I'd take a Abit any day over MSI, now where's the stick to give this guy a licking, LOL 😉

Is the A8N32-SLI the only dual X16 SLI board out at the moment and please don't say that Tyan, LOL, I'm talking boards that more of us gamers can afford without taking out a second mortage on the house. 😉

Hmm..didn't think I was hijacking this thread so much as adding to the discussion. Besides, if I were to start a new thread, I would get crapped on for starting a new thread when there's already one out there. You just can't win.

Vanvock,
Asus was the first to actually make a 32x availble although they can be hard to find right now due to the holiday rush. Other manufacturers have announced that they will make them but havent actually seen any yet. The current cards at the time of the launch, the 7800GTX was the best at that time, only showed gains at resolutions above 1600x1200. According to the reviewers they were saying nVidia was going to make tweaks to take more advantage of the 32x. It was implied it was to be thru driver updates but no one knew for sure because it was alot of speculation. Supposedly nVidia confirmed it but not through any publication I have seen. Basically talk between review labs and nVidia techs. It would make sense for them to do it though. Obviously any new cards would be made to take advantage of it. Not sure if the new 7800GTX 512Mb card has had that improvement or not since its so new. I havent seen any direct correlation of it but there arent many reviews of the 512 cards to be found really. I'm guessing it'll be seen in the next new card after the 7800GTX whatever that may be.

Logic would also suggest ASUS would also make improvements thru bios flashes but I havent heard of anything there yet. I dont have my ASUS A8N32 mobo yet. Waiting till after the holidays are over before building a new rig. Supplies on various components I want are hard to find anyway right now with the holidays. Plus I need to finish some home improvements before I spend the money I plan to budget for a new build. If you want more detailed info on the performance of the A8N32 I would suggest talking to those few that actually have one and see if they noticed any improvement.

Anyway since the advantages were small at the start many opted to wait until later when newer versions of the 32x would undoubtedly come out(2006). Some have jumped on the mobo now though because they are building their rigs at this time and want some future proofing till their next build.

And you can run one card at 16X on the A8N32 from what I understand of the mobo. The main slot obviously does 16X not sure if the second slot does as well solo. Wouldnt see why not. Again, you'd have to check with those that have the mobo to confirm.

After all the headaches I got with the BIOSes on my Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, I've taken my leave of the Asus camp for a good long time. It's going to take a lot to get me back too. I've gone to an Abit AN8-SLI board and it is fantastically stable and solid.

I'm going to go with the Abit KN8 SLi, it's a tad simpler and my gut feeling is to lean towards that.

THANKS
