Heres my beauties. They are all aluminum and the blue one is anodized. They are combustion cannons and operate on a pressurized mixture of propane and air. They are refered to as "Hybrid Spud Guns". Chambers are sealed until firing, causing main valve to open and send potato, lime or golf ball down range with extreme force and speed. These are far and above your standard PCV spud gun.

Wow, potato guns have certainly come a long way. When I was a kid we used to shoot them all the time, but they were the PVC homemade type. This is the first time I've ever seen a "professional" potato gun.

How much do they cost?

You can't buy these. I designed them in solidworks and had parts machined/welded and built them myself. There are lots of online stores that sell PVC spud guns, some fancy, some simple.

Wow, nicely done. You must have invested a lot of time and money into those awesome cannons.

Is the silver one plated? Or just polished aluminum?

I built one when I was younger. Just a cheap PVC one that cost me something like <$50 total. I drilled the holes for the bbq lighter too far apart, so it would only go off sometimes. It was fun standing there constantly clicking the lighter not knowing which click will set it off.

What sort of damage can a gun like that do? Is it comparable to a handgun or rifle?

They will kill you easy as pie and the total energy can match or exceed a hand gun (projectile mass x velocity). I have seen videos of people playing with normal spud guns, like shooting their buddies etc, but something in this power class will do serious damage. Any spud gun can do serious damage really, but these are treated with more respect. The good thing about them is that idiot noobs can't get their hands on one because it takes a lot of research, a little math, and plenty of time and patience to build one. So dangerous noobs are limited to PVC most of the time.
I have a video shooting golf balls. This was right after I built the cannon and just wanted to make a fun video. Golf balls don't weight as much as limes or potatoes, so they do less damage, but they fly really damn far. Watch the video for some casual plinking fun.

The first video shows fast replays of the same shot. The cannons are not semi automatic. The second video gets better at 45 seconds. That silly douche in the video is me. End of second video is friggin sweet. Shows a long range sniper shot to 2 liter bottle with potato.
