Who's got wicked good tech support?

Hi. I'm shopping around for a new laptop for my mom, who's looking to spend no more than $1300 and requires good tech support from time to time. You know, knowledgable techs who are polite and enunciate and don't have so thick of a foreign accent that you can't understand them. I've seen around here that favorite major brands include IBM and business-class Toshibas and HPs; how's the tech support for any of these companies? Are there any other praiseworthy manufacturers that I should consider?

i had a problem with my toshiba laptop so i called the tech's... the lady sounded like she was from East Europe ..... her accent wasnt hard to understand but frankly she wasnt of much help .. anyways after talking to her for about 15 min she decided that the laptop should be sent in and so she sent a prepaid box which arrived the very next business day in which i was to put my laptop and send it back ... i sent it in and i got my laptop back in 1.5 weeks ( she had said that it would take 2 weeks max ) ... They replaced the mobo altogether...

In all, i was pretty impressed with their service ..... So i'd definately say toshiba's great..

IBM, but....you're going to have to get a G series or R series. (price)

R40 - This one brings it exactly to $1299.00, not counting tax. Has a Pentium-M processor.
R50e - This one brings it to $999.00, and has a Celeron-M, which proved to stand up rather strongly against the regular Pentium-M. This might be a good choice if you can't get the first choice.
R51 - This one brings it to $1029.00. It's mostly equivalent to the R50e, BUT it is wireless upgradable and has the embedded security subsystem. Also, it has less RAM, a smaller screen, but it is lighter.

Note: I chose only the "light and powerful" systems. If you want to get a pentium 4 or celeron, be my guest. I just think these solutions are better.

Really? What's wrong with the R series? IBM's site has got models with similar prices for both series...

G and R is made of ABS plastic, which is better than what most of the other companies use, but is slightly worse than the T and X series, which has a magnesium alloy screen.
