Who's got a "mostly gaming rig" with SCSI drives?

These are out of my price range...but what the heck, I can ask questions, right? Do you notice a diff in performance? I'd imagine levels load instantly! Depending on how much mainboard mem you have too, I guess. Anyway, just something to think about for the next system. End of year timeframe, prolly. When GF3's are $99.95. (JK)

one of my friends will not own anything but SCSI.

his machine does seem a tad faster when loading, etc... in games.

My main gaming rig consists of:

10x 18gig SCA/LVD 10k RPM harddrives
2x 36gig SCA/LVD 10k RPM Hardrives
for a total of 256gigs!
And 1 gig of ram

And yes, I do notice a difference when I try the same games on a similar system running regular IDE drives.

My "bottleneck" right now is my Radeon 64, but I cant see any reason to upgrade the card especially, IMO, nothing out there is taxing it. When a kickass game comes out that my system stutters, thats when I will upgrade the card.

Wow, what do you need all those gigs for?
I only have 2 9.1's (10k u160) and a scsi cdrom and cdrw. I love them. 😀
Matt

i don't think scsi is a wise investment for a gaming rig, cuz you're only really putting it to work during the initial load.

but prices of 10Krpm scsi beasts have dropped considerably in in the last few years. you can now get a 9-gig 10Krpm drive (ibm 36lzx) w/ 4.9ms seek for as little as $152 (free shipping available). 9 gigs is more than enuf romm to run both w2k & winme, all your apps, and prolly even a linux distro.

lol Oyeve!

when u were listing all those SCSI HDD and then mentioned u had 1 gig of RAM with 250 gigs of SCSI HDD space....I thought u were joking! then i looked at your profile and checked out your system. :Q

what DO you use all that space for?

I use it for everything: Audio encoding, video encoding, cd burning, every single game I own is installed on it plus its an NT ADS server. My wife hates it cuz of all the fans. I have 2 external scsi cages with six fans each not to mention the 4 fans in my PC case.

Oyeve, you don't have a rig, you have an aerospace aerodynamics testing apparatus a.k.a. a wind tunnel! Geez! Cool. 😀 Thanks for the replies guys. Have a nice weekend.
