I was wondering about that. I noticed all the reviews were the same when I downloaded it and thought it was some weird play store bug.

Anybody else notice they can't stop the app from running if you're "waiting in line"? It says connected in my notification bar and there's no way to stop it short of restarting the phone. Or uninstalling, which I'm going to do immediately.

Same thing happened with the Samsung Push Service app regarding comments.

As for how many downloads of xBBM? Blackberry today said they are adding 500,000 accounts an hour from the queue. And there is still a backlog. So, if they announced 10 million and over the past 24 hours added 500K per hour, they already have 24 million new people on xBBM with more in the queue.

Yeah that pissed me off. Long press the app in the notification shade and disable it.

I just uninstalled it. Stupid annoyances made me question whether it was worth downloading just to play around with. I'm not big on messaging aside from Hangouts once in a while, not really looking for a replacement.

I'm betting it was someone unaffiliated with Blackberry trying to manipulate stock price or some other such way of benefiting from hyping this new app up.
How did they manage to do this on such a massive scale though given that posting reviews on the Play Store requires a Google+ account?

Was the whole point of putting people on the wait list to hijack their email accounts and post these fake reviews? :hmm:
Or was those fake BBM apps released on the Play Store a few weeks back done for the sake of harvesting email accounts for the sole purpose of posting these reviews?

This isn't just happening at the US Play Store. It's happening at Play Store everywhere including the one in Mexico.

***Side note***
I still can't get over the comments in the article and have been ROFL all day:
"Thank you so much androidpolice team. I was waiting this article. Its really great user friendly and well writing."

"It really smooth fast and cool. will waiting for updates. love u androidpolice team. love u article."

I did. It sucks. The interface is just horrible. WTF is this menu button on the bottom right?

The fact that I have to add contacts manually is pretty annoying.
