Got tired of the fan noise of my FE MSI 1080 Ti. Purchased an Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo III and had enough small heat sinks to cover the RAM, power circuitry, etc. already in my possession. I installed the cooler and used Arctic Alumina epoxy to put all the hardware on the PCB. I didn't increase the overclocking headroom by much, but it won't thermal throttle anymore with the fan profile starting at 50% and sloping upwards starting at 60°C. Brought my temperatures down to 28°C at idle and around 60-70°C under a looping Heaven Benchmark. Let it sit running Heaven for about an hour and the cooling kept up with the card the entire time. Now things are pretty much silent and I get more consistent boost clocks since they never come down due to thermal throttling. Pulled the overclock back to +120 core and +250 on memory for longevity of the card, and it will boost up to 2Ghz and just stay there, even without a custom fan profile.

Posted on 3/21/2017:
MSI overclocked to about +150 on GPU and +300 on memory. Let Heaven Benchmark loop and it thermal throttles back to around 1936Mhz before leveling out. During normal games it will hit 2Ghz+ most of the time. Using a custom fan profile to keep things stable at 2Ghz (ish). I'll see how it does in the summertime.

My Auros Xtreme 1080ti should be here Friday. Looking to do a clean install as I've just changed my main drive and cloned the other one. Curious what type of clocks I'll end up for benchmarks.

You don't need many details about the card to know if you are getting one or not. You know this game well enough by now. It will be close to Titan X in performance and will cost around $7-800. It will OC pretty good to around 2ghz or a bit more. If so, are you getting one? Getting two?
I will have to take a good look at TitanX performance on games I play that don't support SLI to determine If I'll be getting a 1080ti or not. I just haven't bothered to really think about it. If SLI worked, a 1080ti would be out of the question.
But SLI doesn't work. It doesn't work with DOOM, it doesn't work with Gears 4, it doesn't work with Forza Horizon 3, it doesn't work with the new COD game (which I am shockingly slightly interested in), and while it works with BF1, it has major issues, like FPS tanking if Geforce Experience share is enabled.
So, ditching all these issues and getting better performance in these games is appealing to me. I won't pay $800 though, so if that's the cost, no, I'm not getting one.
Are you?

I want one, but don't have the money for it and have some other things to pay so..... I am joining a giveaway so I hope I am the lucky one thay gets the GTX 1080 TI

I'm tempted to go SLI at this point since I picked up a 144Hz monitor. This single 1080Ti doesn't have enough umph for Arma 3 or PU Battlegrounds. :p

Arma 3 is pretty CPU limited though, you only get about 40% more fps with SLI in that game. Does your monitor support Gsync?

I'm upgrading. I've got almost $200 in Amazon GC, and another $200 by selling some older cards I had laying around. Debating between selling my 980Ti or move it over to a 2nd box, though I've found the only time I use a 2nd gaming box is when I feel compelled to do so simply because it's there and otherwise doesn't get used (at least for games) so yeah... Leaning towards selling it while it still has a fair amount of value left.

This will be the last upgrade I do to this box before an entirely new build, probably in about 2 years time.

I've changed my mind. Volta looks too good to pass up so I'll be hanging on to the 980Ti for a while longer.

So for those who have 1080 Ti Single, or in SLi. What monitors are you guys using?
ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q, 1440p/144 Gsync.

I owned the Strix only for a week, but very happy with it so far. Fans are mostly quiet, but does become noticeably louder over case fans above 60% speed.

I'm still amazed at this GPU's power. In comparison, my old 1070 on High settings would get 90 FPS avg on Shadows of Mordor with mild-to-moderate OC (about +100/+400, MSI Afterburner).

The Ti with everything on Ultra and similar OC settings used 5.6GB VRAM, yet still got 99-100 avg FPS @ only 75% GPU usage!

Got one a little while back myself. Gigabyte Gaming brand. The card is insanely quiet with the 3 fan set up GB has got on there, and its ridiculous fast. Going back through my library of games I put off because I couldn't hack it. With my old 290 CF I couldn't even do single 1080p medium-high settings without regularly dropping below 40 FPS in Dishonored 2 (CF didnt work). Now with the 1080 Ti I have everything maxed, triple monitor 5820x1080 (bezel corrected) and it doesn't drop below 60 fps. Amazing. I haven't even overclocked yet because there's been no point in the games I play so far.

Yea the gigabyte brand I heard good things about but mine was a dud when I received it. It was so unstable.

Had bad luck with a Gigabyte 1080 Windforce, bad coil whine. Ended up returning it last summer and bought a used 980 TI Classy. Something about the plasticity of Gigabyte's coolers erks me.

Loving this Ti Extreme, however. Near silent so far.

I ordered an Inno3D 1080 Ti ichill x3 on Friday, mostly because I simply couldn't contain myself. Will probably get it on Wednesday.

I run triples in Assetto Corsa (and PCars2 when it is released). I have 3x1080p screens but I will probably use 1440p (DSR) on middle screen only, in GTA5 and most other games.

Because I use Benq Motion Blur Reduction I usually run at 75hz (to avoid flicker), so I need some serious power to keep the fps above 75 at all times.

Are there newer 4k monitors coming out? I thought about selling my 1440p panel and getting a 4k one. I'm just not sure if I want to deal with lower fps or turning down settings.
