Who's changed a power supply before?

I'm trying to replace an AT power supply in my PC. I didn't think it was going to be hard until I ran into this problem where the new and old switch (with the brown, blue, black, and white wires) doesn't match. I assume that I have to take the wires off the new and old switch and plug them back it the new. Is there an easy way to do this? The wires slide in and out, but seem to be locked in by a circular indent in the metal, so I can't get them out.

Who's done this before??? Someone please tell me so I can go eat dinner!

I though all AT powersupplies comes with a replacement switchbox as standard? ATX using come with the way you've described (sans switch). You should be able to just simply replace the entire unit.

It does have a switch. Its just a different type. The old one is a rocker, this new one a push button. The case I have isn't made for a pushbutton.

Are the wires not meant to be removed?

Click here to see the diagram

I whipped up this diagram on how an AT Push Switch and AT Rocker Switch wire configurations go.
Some switches don?t have L1/L2 and are just called 1/2 others have a P instead of N/L etc. SOme don't have N1/L1 are are just 1/2...Confusing aye?

The diagram should help you though.
Provided nothing goes wrong the worst you will do is trip the circuit breaker. I know this because I?ve done it myself :)

zoltarc:

Thanks for drawing that diagram. That's not the problem I'm having, though..

I actually haven't removed the wires yet. I can't figure out how and was hoping someone could give me some pointers. How do you usually remove them from the switch?

Just pull :)

Are the connectors a gold/copperish and are incased in a plastic/clear cover?
If so just pull and they should just come off. If they don't unplug the power cord and pull back the clear covers and flick the bit of metal on the connector away from the hole.

Or you could cut they off, strip the wire, buy four new connectors and crimp them again.
