Whats the best slocket that would work with most BX (or slot 1 mobos) as well as support the widest range of CPU's (Tualatin based not included)?

Perhaps the Abit Slocket !!! or the MSI Master (both worked fine for me on an Asus board, and the latter slocket is slightly more stable at extreme overclocks), both of which will give you Celeron Coppermine and Pentium III Coppermine compatibility, and both of which have voltage jumpers.

Which mobos? What chips?

For Tualatin, you'd need a PowerLeap or something, and that's $$$$. May as well buy a whole new mobo.

The better slotkets (Abit and MSI) are hard to come by these days. I know for a fact that a buddy of mine has (2) Celery 1.0Ghz FCPGA working with these slotkets:

Slotket for 10 bucks at buy.com

I have one too, but haven't had need for it yet.

Does that slocket come with voltage jumpers? The jumpers are useful to force 1.8 Volts for those older BX mobos which can't provide a voltage below 1.8 V. (These mobos will not POST if the CPU tells it it wants less than 1.8 V.)

Using the article from Overclockers.com I got a Tualatin based Celeron to work in a Abit Slocket 3 on a P3V4X. It's pretty easy and made a great upgrade. The 1GHz (100MHz FSB) Celeron's are basically P3's at .13u and overclock easily to 1.33Ghz.

Can someone link to this article? I'm looking and looking but can find it.

John P., I tried that slotket in the link and it doesn't work with an FCPGA Celeron (1.0ghz, 128k cache, 100mhz, FSB) on a Dell BX board. It says its FCPGA compatible but I think its only PPGA. I do have the Powerleap slotket that accepts Tualatin CPU's and the Coppermine Celeron works fine with it (still waiting for the 1.2ghz Tualatin Celeron:)). The problem is I have two Slot 1 boards ( the other is a Asus 820 chipset)and I just need another slotket that works reliably with FCPGA Celerons. I have heard good things about the MSI, Abit and IWILL slotkets and from what I've researched, some of these slotkets have a jumper for PPGA and FCPGA? I think this is the type I need.

The mobos are pretty cheap (one is actually free)and I have a lot of PC133 lying around. Basically, I just want to tinker around with them:D.

Thanks. I assume this mod will work if using a Via Apollo Pro 133A board

Make sure you disable virus check in the BIOS. I have no idea why, but my P3V4X wouldn't boot with the Tualatin if the virus scan was enabled.

Interestingly, the P2B (also an Asus board, but BX) will not work with the standard Powerleap adapter for Tualatin. They have a special one for the P2B. I don't know what the difference is.

Powerleap seems to have two versions. Ver 1.0 is auto everything while Ver. 2.0 allows you to manually adjust the voltage. There's a lot of these adapters at Ebay right now but they run around $50 (Buy it Now option) plus shipping. Add the cost of a FCPGA Celeron and it will cost you from $100-130, depending on the CPU speed. I got a Ver 1.0 for only $20:).

The mod is really easy to do, and has been working on most name-brand slockets.

Thats the problem, there almost no brand name Slotkets around anymore and the ones at Ebay are priced $20 and above. Then you also have the problem with older motherboards not supporting low voltages. Compatiility can also be hit/miss. The Powerleap has their own power supplies and you actually know what motherboards will work. If the Powerleap is $10-15 more than a regular slotket, I think its still worth it.

One more question for the slocket experts: If the slocket has jumpers for lower voltages (like 1.75v for example) but the motherboard only supports down to 2.0v, will a 1.75v CPU still work ( like does the slocket has a way of converting the 2.0v to .75v)?
