Was pumped from a tanker into the underground tanks.
That area is a suburb of DC. Minimal smarts by some folks in that area. Many use kerosene space heaters to suppliment the heating system in their living quarters (if they have heat).
This apparently happens pretty frequently. Last year or the year before someone died when their space heater exploded after a gas station mistakenly sold gasoline instead of kerosene.
Always a good idea to take a whiff of it before you pour it into your space heater. There's no mistaking the different odors.
Same thing happened in Michigan a couple years before I moved. A few fires insued, one resulting in the total loss of a camper or something, but nobody was hurt that I recall. The last I remember, there was still two containers floating around somewhere that had not been recovered or accounted for.
