Yeah! XP rocks on my new lappy at work. Although, you must pay careful attention on how you install drivers. Here's the story (as though anyone cares...)
Dell Inspiron 4100 Lappy w/DVD drive, WinXP Home. Everything works out of the Dell box. Woot! Put it on desk and plug HP 940c printer into USB port. XP sees printer, installs it's own drivers, printer works fine. I go to install the HP supplied Win XP drivers via the DVD drive. WinXP never sees disc. Any disc. Sees the drive just fine, but no media. Hmmm. Interesting. Anyway, I uninstall printer drivers, reboot lappy (with printer unhooked) and DVD works again! Cool. So I put the HP XP driver disc in drive, start the install, connect printer when it tells me to (though I have the printer plugged into the wall outlet) As soon as the USB plug is in lappy, WinXP installs it's own drivers and the DVD doesn't work again! Printer MUST be unplugged until the driver install program tells you to plug it in thus preventing XP from installing it's own drivers. Nowhere in any documentation does it say anything about this. I have posted the the Dell forum so noone else has the fun I've had.

Anyway, yeah. XP rocks. I like it bunches.

Its about time they put autocomplete in the command line. If it works like linux, that'd be cool, not that i have too much use for it.

autocomplete.. you mean like

cd pro
*press tab*
cd program files

this?

Win2k has this also, just have to enable it in the registry.

You must be using an older edition or different distribution. On Mandrake 8.0 it works peachy for me.

the autocomplete thing also works in NT4 too. It's a reg setting that you have to add in NT4 and 2000.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor
CompletionChar DWORD = 9

Where do you expect it to stick all of the stuff in memory?

I have had that problem with most USB devices - having to wait until the driver installation tells you to plug the beast in rather than plugging it in first.

hehe, i value my sleep.... i have 7 fans in my computer, one rear, 2 front, 2 misc, and a delta :Q the funny thing is i don't even overclock... it just turned out this way.

yea, i heard the tab thing was there before... *shrug*

now what we *really* need is for them to make it so that selecting text copies it to the clipboard. mmm..... :)

I think he hates corporate America. That's the real underlying problem with people who hate XP. Personally, I think it's wonderful! :)
