I don't find it that hard to believe. I drove my 1990 Integra from Raleigh, NC to Baltimore, MD and averaged 37.8 miles per gallon. It had about 150,000 miles on it at the time. These things will get great mileage on the highway if you set the cruise control at a reasonable speed. I set mine at the speed limit the whole way (between 55 65 MPH, depending on the road).


Edit, I should add that I got 28 MPG doing a similar trip in my 2002 Ford Escape V6 4 x 4.

No AC was used in either trip. I did have the sun roof open in the Escape however.

i've got almost 40mpg on my 98 civic going on i5 before, going about 70 mph. it can happen.

making the drive in less than two weeks!

funny how my pops old 5.0L V8 gets as good or better gas mileage as some or most 6 and 4 cylinder engines. I can barely get 25 mpg in my Maxima.

unless you used the same gas pump both times, your results are skewed. no two pumps are going to shut off at exactly the same time.

What if he keeps pumping it until it basically overflows?
I usually click it up until it spurts out a bit or whatnot.
