ok, i decided i was kinda hungry. found an instant blockbuster popcorn thing. popped it in for 4 minutes thinking i would be back to hit cancel once i hear the popping start.

i go to my room, popping goes unnoticed.

i smell smoke!!

the %#@ thing is burning up, my kitchen is full of smoke. i quickly minimize damage by canceling and totally ventilating house. vorondo fans helping.

omg, its horrific smelling. the popcorn is unrecognizable, the stuff was covered with plastic(dumb) that melted, a nice toxic stew. worse of all my microwave is stained yellow. i just tried cleaning it but it remains a shade of light yellow on the inside surfaces. i tried 409 grease cleaner but that didn't help much. any advice?

yes, there are pics.

whoda thunk freakin popcorn could burn like that. 3.5 minutes only:(

oh the horror... oh the horror...

heh yea, the fans are still going. i think my nose hairs absorbed the smoke smell, i smell it no matter what now. so annoying. but that plastic wrapped over the top of the popcorn, bad idea.. bad idea.

i've smoked popcorn in the little paper baggies b4, not much, just a whiff of white smoke telling me i've slightly overdone my popcorn, but this time.. its just insane. sweet toxic plastic.

never going to buy those tubs again:p

and damnit, i just wonder how the parts of the microwave i can't get to look like:(

yes, yes i did put plastic in the microwave. it was supposed to be there. it was not a wrapper, but only covered the inside part on top of the kernels. i read the instructions u know:p the point is that the plastic is totally not heat resistent. it just melted... creating a horrible mess.

Egad!! I like the idea of going to Blockbuster with incriminating evidence and trying to get them to recover damages. :D Nuke a bowl of water in there to try and steam the yellow gunk to where it's loosened up, at least to the point where you can use the 409 again. Best of luck! And never leave your kitchen appliances unattended. :)

put a cup of water in it for 1 min that will help to steam the stained yellow then take bleach to it.

For the smell once you get it clean put a cup of vinegar in it let it sit for a few hours. Vinegar will absorb almost all oders. It works great for smoke smells you just put a cup/bowl in the room and then like hours later smell is all gone.

fore warning. Be prepared to have the house stink for a while the next few times you use your microwave.

Hope you get it all cleaned up.

d00d, just get a new micronwave from fry's. they're onsale, panasonic 1cu for $49.99 after $10 rebate, and daewoo .6cu for $29.99 after $10 rebate. however dont trust the rebates to come, fry's rebate form was like faxed and recopied then stepped on a few times and faxed and recopied. u'd think they'd have the original rebate forms somewhere, but that'd be why the rebate never comes

May need some oven spray cleaner. Many office environments have baned that stuff because of numerous incidents like yours. Plus the crap stinks..smells like the kat pissed somewhere but where??

good suggestions. i'll try that too:)

and asuka, its a big microwave, i can't replace it with a dinky one:)

and yes, it doesn't look like 3.5 minutes at all. a package that can't even survive a slight overcooking without becoming a toxic stew, pathetic. my microwave isn't "that" powerful:p

You know I used to have this problem until I figured it out.

When you pop popcorn you cannot have a rotating tray in the microwave or it does not pop. The popcorn has to be still to be popped.

hm u musta had some funky microwave:)

or ur screwing with me.

even the older microwave this one replaced rotated. popcorn popped fine. microwaves themselves are not affected by rotation, the heating is more even with rotation.
