If you come up with something new and it's somehow adopted by society, then you get recognized. Something that has never been done before which is done for the first time is usually remembered.

So i'd have to say Neil Armstrong will be remembered, Elvis Presley, Shakespeare, (let's not forget all the religious figures too like prophets).
