I got a raise today---our raise scale is 0%-5% 0% is for poor performance over the year, 5% is for outstanding performance over the year (and unheard of). Today I got a smarmy email from our HR dept talking about how I'm a valued member of the staff blah blah blah...and I scored a 6.95% raise. Wholey hell! I didn't have to blow the boss or anything! I'm not even working hard either- I screw around 4/8 hours a day, but I have a talent for fixing difficult problems, so it evens out :)

After thinking about it though, HR received two or three info requests from state employment offices that got my resume, so they may have thought I was thinking of leaving. So- passive threats = Big $$$$$!!!!

Difference between Fritzo and other ATOT Posters, he posts positively about getting a raise.
If you were anyone else, your post would have been "I got a 6.95% raise, but was expecting a 7% raise"

Congrats :)

good job.

this past year in review i hit my 3yr mark and pleaded my case and asked for a larger than normal raise.

when raise time came, the majority of the people got a 5% raise. i got a 15% raise :)

remember, you work for a business, and they are trying to get the job done spending the least amount of $$ as they have to. if you don't say something to them they will assume everything is okay.

It's above inflation, which means you are gaining ground. But when you figure you only gained 2%, inflation adjusted, over last year, your will realize this is a hopeless course for financial independence. Then you will pull the gun out of your desk drawer and blow your brains out. Or you will become the people in office space. I recommend the gun option.

My costs have gone down so this is all gravy :) I really have a cushy job and the only reason I'm where I'm at is because of my problem solving abilities. My daily schedule is:

8:00-10:00- check the news, read emails, print off a list of tickets engineers couldn't solve
10:00-11:30- fix "unsolvable" problems
11:30-1:00- nef, lunch, nef
1:00-3:00- fix tickets that came in from the morning
4:00-5:00- nef

The only downside is I have to be a supervisor on every Sat. from 4-midnight. The shift is OK as I don't do anything anyway, but managing a call center sucks (reference my recent rant of why toes are no longer allowed to be shown in the office  ) That job would stress me out in two weeks if I have to do it every day.

Congrats :)

True, except it would've been, "I was expecting a 20% raise, 15% minimum."

Also consider that for a lot of people here, the difference between a 15% and a 20% raise is the difference between $9.00/hr and $9.25 :)

Ouch. Either your company is penny pinching dill-holes or you make an ass load of money.

I was happy about my 25% raise this time last year. Too bad 25% of crap ranks somewhere between "slave labor" and "suck". I don't make a fortune, but I look forward to work everyday. I guess it's a trade off, or maybe I just have a lot to learn about the working world still. The bills get paid and I'm able to tuck some away, so I guess I can call myself satisfied.

I do pretty well. 6.9% of my salary is probably what a college student makes per year.
