Whole pot of coffee

I just drank a whole pot of coffee, and I pretty much filled the filter with coffee grounds until I couldn't fit any more in it. Somebody who took a small taste said it was the strongest coffee he'd ever tasted.

I'm a little scared... It messed me up pretty bad. At first, it was helping me to concentrate, but now I'm having a hard time walking!!! It's hard to type!

Anybody else do this with too many energy drinks or whatnot? How dangerous is it to do this once or twice in your lifetime?

You can't put a limit on my cafe lattes, it says so right here. And I don't want to get dirty looks when I come in here. If I want a cafe latte, you give me a cafe latte. And if I have any problems I'm gonna get my lawyer Jackie Chiles down here and you're gonna be in really big trouble.

You know, now that I'm coming off my high a little bit, I'm understanding "Numerical Recipes in C" a lot more. (My grad student friend told me about that book when I need complex algorithms.)

Did you drink the whole pot?

8 oz cup of coffe = 80-120 gms of caffeine. The lighter the roast, the stronger the coffee. The darker the roast, the lower the caffeine content.

See my sig.

od on caffine is hard.lethal levels require consumption far beyond a pot of coffee. however. the point where you no longer gain good effects is easily reached. you pass that point and you get jitters/nausea instead of alertness.

Well, considering how strong it tastes, it's probably sitting at 150 mg/8 oz. Eight 8oz cups makes for 1200 mg of caffeine. Isn't that like 6 caffeine pills?

Did you switch to Bawls, or did you give up caffeine altogether?

caffeine doesn't really have a noticeable effect on coffee flavor. You can make an equally nasty tasting cup of decaf.

Caffeine content is closely related to the content of coffee bean particulate, no? I'm not talking about an acidic taste, such as one closely related to a cup heated too much. I'm talking about a strong taste derived from using a lump of coffee grounds far too large. I used perhaps three times the amount of coffee grounds that I should have.

You drank too much, but you didn't drink anywhere near too much.

Stop at 3 or 4 cups next time and you'll be golden.

I was probably good after one of this stuff. You've probably never had coffee this strong. Next time I'm gonna recirculate the coffee back into the machine through a new set of grounds to see what kind of effect I can get. Maybe I should distill it with a vacuum to make my own uber espresso.

One pot of extremely strong coffee is nowhere near lethal, unless you are an infant.
Extremely strong coffe, even at 300mg per cup (which is 3 times that of a normal brew, most likely stronger then the coffee you made unless you re-ran the coffee through the machine over a period of several loops with fresh roasts each time), a 10 cup pot would still only be about 3 grams, or not quite 1/3 the lethal dose for a ~150 pound adult.

From the coffeefaq
Basically, overdosing on caffeine will probably be very very unpleasant but not kill or deliver permanent damage. However, People do die from it.

Toxic dose

The LD_50 of caffeine (that is the lethal dosage reported to kill 50% of the population) is estimated at 10 grams for oral administration. As it is usually the case, lethal dosage varies from individual to individual according to weight. Ingestion of 150mg/kg of caffeine seems to be the LD_50 for all people. That is, people weighting 50 kilos have an LD_50 of approx. 7.5 grams, people weighting 80 kilos have an LD_50 of about 12 grams.

In cups of coffee the LD_50 varies from 50 to 200 cups of coffee or about 50 vivarins (200mg each).

One exceptional case documents survival after ingesting 24 grams. The minimum lethal dose ever reported was 3.2 grams intravenously, this does not represent the oral MLD (minimum lethal dose).

In small children ingestion of 35 mg/kg can lead to moderate toxicity. The amount of caffeine in an average cup of coffee is 50 - 200 mg. Infants metabolize caffeine very slowly.

I expect it would be less work to just make espresso :p

That is only 1.2 grams of caffeine, 10 grams is lethal, so 8 pots of those coffee
