Whois: anyone still squatting domains after a search?

Just wondering, I remember a few years ago Network Solutions would hold a domain name hostage for a few days after performing a whois on it, do they (or anyone else) still do that?

I've never seen it. But, then again, I'd never use Network Solutions for anything.
