Was it faster or slower than Photoshop CS ? The same? Are there that much upgrades that it's worth it ?

I have 1GB of memory and I don't see a significant decrease as far as speed goes. I've had CS and CS2. I think CS2 is better lol.

CS2 runs about the same speed as CS did on my rig at home (which has 1 gig), although on one of the machines at work (dual xeon's w/ 1 gig) it's having some speed issues atm, go figure.

There's a reference on Adobe's web site stating that CS2 may run slow if your video card has less than 128mb memory. I'm not sure why an app like PS would need so much memory on the video card.

Any ideas?

I prefer CS, because it has a better speed-features ratio. Photoshop CS2 is much slower, and all you get is a couple new filters and Spot Healing.

I just got CS2, I did not notice a significant speed change. I'm running it on a P4-2.8 with a gig of ram

vanishing point, advanced sharpening, advanced noise reduction, and smart objects alone are a lot more than just "a couple new filters" and that's from an amateur standpoint.

PS CS2 is a good upgrade from CS, but I wouldn't say the same for Illustrator CS2 though...

if you have a lot of plug ins it will slow down but I don't see any performance using 512MB.
