The HHR SS is an abomination, but can be fast as hell too. Same motor as the kappa twins and Cobalt SS. With a tune and a few mods you can make enough power to jerk the wheel out of your hand on the freeway.

its the same chasis as the cobalt/ION

No idea how some of you drive without drinking. I use my cupholders all the time and agree with Shawn that the first task on any new car design list should be to build it around the cupholders not put them in as an after thought.

HHR is quite an abomination. I drove a brand new rental HHR and probably fried many brain cells from inhaling the toxic "new car smell."

(Same problem when I drove a brand new Nissan Cube.)

Call me a wimp but it seems to me any modern car short of a pure supercar should have cupholders, and if they're as badly designed as the ones in the HHR as pictured, God knows what other issues the manufacturer has failed to carefully design and implement.

My E90 has a pair of stupidly overengineered cupholders that slide out of the dashboard when needed. They suspend your drink over the passenger's legs and invariably, on rough pavement, cause it to splash somewhat. They also get gummed up and break at the drop of a hat. At least, if I'm giving the engineers the benefit of the doubt, they were trying hard (perhaps too hard).

Considering how far you have to reach just to get to the closer cupholder, I figured BMW didn't want us to drink in the car. Although, there is a refrigerated cupholder inside the armrest but you have to open the armrest to get at the drink.

Yeah, I think BMW just doesn't want us to drink in the car.

What do people have against cup holders? Do you really not drink on long drives? Is dehydration fun or something?

Anti-cupholder rage is the stupidest bandwagon of all time. Get over yourselves. You aren't Jeremy Fucking Clarkson.

Well put. I am a driving enthusiast and have pretty much only owned sporty cars with manual transmissions, but to me cupholders just make sense. I'm damned glad to have them on both of my cars, including my track/weekend M3.

I don't know anyone dumb enough to rage over the existence of cup holders, just over placement and number. When your car seats 5 and you have 10 cup holders, one must wonder exactly what was going on.

I love cup holders so much. When the temperature outside is always above freezing, I keep various drinks in my trunk so I always have stuff to drink on the road
Since my current car has so many cup holders, it's a lot easier to have several things going at once. I don't need to slam my lemonade just because I also want to buy a frosty.

Like one of the other people said, I put my cell phone in a cup holder. One of my cup holders is also filled with unused napkins. Those are handy :D

That is a legit point. All I really care about is two usable cupholders for the people in the front seats. Backseat is appreciated but not vital to me. 10 cupholders for 5 people seems like misplaced priorities.

My Miata didn't have a real cupholder, just a tray, right behind the shifter. So I got one of these wedge types that wedges in between the center console and the passenger seat

Well it lets you choose which one you want to use. How many rooms does your house have per person? Are you going to demolish some because you don't use all of them all the time?

I don't really have a problem with more cupholders, but it strikes me that in anything other than a minivan, putting that many in will compromise space for other things. It would depend on implementation, of course - I trust some carmakers more than others to get this right.

No, but my house is set-up well enough I don't need 4 bedrooms for 2 people. Everyone is quite happy with the location of their current room.

This.
I even put an aftermarket center console in my 67 Mustang, so I can could get cup holders. I prefer being hydrated.

My Altima has decent cup holders. The only problem I ever run into is when I go to this one place to eat with someone and we both get the large drink. Unlike most places, their cups don't have the very thin bottoms that suddenly balloon out (which allows them to fit in cup holders). So I have to pull the little insert out of my front cup holder to fit the cup, and the only other cup holder that can fit it is the one in the middle portion of the back seat ( that folds down ).

There are some cup holders in the door, which are decent for smaller sized bottles.

the need for a cupholder becomes very apparent when youre sitting in the drivers seat holding a coffee and dont have a place to put it.

my dodge truck has 3 in the front seat, so i never really had issues. my new (to me) toy civic has two, but they are tucked under the ac/ radio controls, so i end up spilling a bit when i first get a drink. its a decent trade off tho, 15mpg to 30ish mpg
