My ISP has been offering 20 mbps down / 1 mbps up for a while now. Apparently, they just added a download and upload cap of ... drumroll please... 20 GB down and 10 GB up.

If you do the math, it comes out to just over 2 consecutive hours of download before you bust the download cap.

They then charge you an absurd $7.95 per additional gigabyte in either direction!

Link for proof

I guess this is useful if you only download a small amount of data but you're EXTREMELY impatient

Notorious problem with Cablevision was upload capping.

When I had it, we had 1mbps up. If you uploaded for an hour straight at full speed, you got capped for 24 hours. If you did it 3 times total, you got capped for at least a month. The cap speed was 16kB/s (128kbps).

So the easy thing to do was to limit uploads. Then they changed it to just continuous uploads and started capping people.

I host digital versions of art for a friend of mine, and the file sizes get pretty big. When I was with my old ISP, I had to have a buddy upload the work for me.

According to your link there is another option with unlimited traffic

Either way, just be glad you dont live in Portugal... We have the crappiest download limits ever... Up until about 6 months ago, the cap was... get ready... 2 GB!!!

Are you serious, 2 gb? LOL Fortunately they finally came to sense and now we are on a "healthy" 40 GB

This isn't retarded, it's brilliant. With those kinds of speeds, people will have no problem breaking the cap. And when they do, the ISP will make mad money from people with 3-4 digit bills.

Anyone who knows their ass from their elbow will just take the (cheaper) uncapped 10 mbps package.

Never underestimate the number of stupid people out there. They'll learn their mistake, after racking up a $1000 bill.
