J.D. Power's says 2011 Kia Soul reliability is mediocre and that is has sloppy handling and a small cargo area with weak acceleration. It's similar to the Nissan Cube, Honda Fit and Scion XB.

Wait for the 2012 model before buying one and don't get green.

No. We have them at the rental company I work for. Most of us there think they're ugly. They're decent cars but they're not sexy. I call it the baby SUV. It's like the the Sportage's mini-me.

That said, I like driving them. Steering is a little stiff but I can get over that. They handle good in the snow. Too bad they don't have an AWD option. Thank god they're putting a six speed in the 2012 model. I'm more interested to see what they've done with the Rio. The last model was like driving a car from 1995.

The commercial was contrasting the "funky" Soul with the other "appliances" on the market. AKA, boring Hondas and Toyotas. Toyotas are often labeled as appliances, so their decision was actually quite genius.

I said it in the other thread about it. I honestly thought that it was a parody of advertising. It's like a mash-up of every one of the "what old people think about the young generation" stereotypes. They couldn't decide on one theme so they took killer robots, humanoid animals, and hip-hop and tried to combine it into a single commercial.

Any one that age that knows/likes that kind of music is NOT going to embarrass themselves and buy a Kia. Someone looking for a crappy used commuter car will buy one and commercials aren't going to be the deciding factor.

If I bought a new Kia (i'm 25 with an average job) my friends would laugh their asses off at me. Hell my coworkers would do the same.

This classification of cars is horrendously ugly. The commercials are certainly not as entertaining as Geico, but definitely effective.... I don't really buy that a commercial is going to sell a car though. I really doubt if Honda stopped pushing ads for the Civic that it would even effect their sales. Word of mouth, resale value, street cred, etc.
