"Who qualifies for a free color printer from Xerox?"

-Do you settle for black and white when you really want brilliant color?

-Is your competition using color printing to gain a competitive edge?

-Are your important documents printed by outside suppliers when you'd rather print them quickly and inexpensively in-house?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you could qualify for a free printer.

Find out how this program enables your documents to work as hard as you do.

Doubtful? Don't be. Check out the fine print."

Looking for a way to help your bottom line? Look no further. Xerox has already provided free network color printers to Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, non-profits, schools, and government
agencies.
To qualify, your organization needs to be U.S. based. All companies or organizations must have more than one employee and must be able to use a credit card for supplies purchases. In addition, we are looking for customers with a growing need for color printing (approximately 2000-4000 pages per month).

etc. etc. etc.
Sorry but this isn't for most of us out here.

This is much like the Tektronix offer that is still valid from what I know. It's the same idea of a free cell phone -- no cost upfront, but you agree to buy all your paper and ink from Xerox (or airtime with a cell phone). Minimum usage requirements are 2000-4000 pages per month, with a $100 fee per month if you don't turn in usage reports and $75 if you are under the limit.

I'd go with Tektronix if you have that kind of usage in your company. Since Xerox is likely to go into bankruptcy within a year or so, you'd be stuck with a useless printer assuming it's not summarily recalled prior to bankruptcy.

A few clarifications:

- Xerox purchased Tektronix, and this is in fact the same deal.

- You do NOT need to purchase paper from Xerox, only color ink (black ink is free) and maintenance supplies.

- If Xerox does go bankrupt, you may well get to keep the printer free and clear with no usage minimums.

- This actually can be a very good deal for a small business.

Check out this thread at FatWallet for more information on this topic.

CouponCollect,

Not to rain on your parade, but I highly doubt that any Anandtechers will qualify for the free printer from these guys. Xerox is in deep sh@t financially.

I believe this is strictly a marketing ploy on their part to increase revenues, they're interested in your monthly usage of color copies. Kind of like the the old Gillette marketing mentality where they would sell the razor at or below manufacturing cost so you would buy their highly profitable razor blades, in this case it's toner, which I would venture to wager is very expensive. I'm also relatively confident that if you should qualify (which for arguements sake would entail your making somewhere in excess of 3-5,000 monthly copies) that there is a stipulation that you must buy toner from Xerox to receive the usage of this free color printer.

I don't know if you noticed but there is the qualifying statement of "We will expect you to meet this monthly volume if your application is approved" so misrepresenting color copy estimations (not that any of us would think of such a thing) will probably in the long run disqualify you. Again, I'm sorry if I'm bursting somebodies bubble....

Matmax -

Please consider reading the thread I referenced for more definitive information. I know, I applied for this program several months ago, was accepted, and have been a very happy user of my free Tektronix 850DP printer.

Additional clarifications:

- Anandtecher's HAVE qualified for this promotion.

- Committed page rates have been reported as low as 2,000 pages per month consisting of any combination of color, black & white, or blank pages. Duplex printing counts as *2* pages.

- The printer doesn't use toner. It uses solid ink sticks (think of it as a big crayon). Black ink is free for the life of the printer; color ink costs money and must be purchased from Xerox.

This is actually a cool deal, and I hve gotten one of these printers, and there is no toner, just a mantanance kit you have to replace every 10,000 printouts, that cost $129 I think it is, and the color ink is pretty cheap considering it will last for more than 2000 Full Color Printouts. Its easy to qualify too, just put a high printout :) I personally do a lots and lots of printing for my home business so this was easy to get :)

Printing technology is pretty cheap today.

Take Injets that we're familiar with. About 5(?) years ago, the 600x600dpi injet cost about $300.

Nowadays, you can get a 600x600 printer for less than $100.

Heck, printers are almost free for low end models. They realy stick it to you in supplies.

Also, my dept. has one of those "free color laser" deals with HP....after 6 months, according to our purchasing guy who sits accross from me, we pay a bit more. But....we send EVERYTHING to this printer. Well, not 100+page reports, those go to the HP-5si with the duplexer(2-sided).
