didnt expect my packages to come in today! i was shocked to find fed ex knocking at my door this morning. i have a case w/ 300 watt power supply, athlon XP 1700, epox 8kHa+ motherboard, and some DDR Ram. the rest of this PC will be made from parts im using now. any suggestions for a first time builder? 🙂 would be appreciated.

You must've ordered an OEM CPU as opposed to a Retail CPU. Only Retail comes with a HSF.

Do NOT power up the mobo w/o a HSF on that CPU. Not even "just to see if it works." You'll smoke the CPU. At least go to a local store and find SOMETHING to put on there. A cheapie will do you fine until you can order a real HSF. Order one today and then go purchase a cheapie. If you are in the middle of nowhere, a local Radio Shack might even have one. Most any Socket 370/Socket A HSF will fit.

OH yeah... for a good time and a roasted CPU fire that baby right up... err NOOOOO DON'T DO IT!!!!

Just think about it, you will be the laughing stock of the forums and receive countless PMs with "I told you so" messages.... just not worth it really 😛

may i use the heatsink fan on this current piece of trash computer as a temporary solution? it's a 433mhz Celeron processor. think it'd fit? =)

i didnt build this machine (obviously, hehe), and all my spec sheet says is Intel® Celeron? 433MHz (w/128KB L2 Cache) PPGA CPU. if this info isnt helping any way to check?

I am prolly one of the very few people on this forum that DOES NOT know what form factor that Celeron is. I'll defer to the rest of the populace. Someone will help you, don't worry. 🙂
